I Realized I Was Not Alone, When I Joined Tata Steel, Ft. Amartya Samanta, Tata Steel

I Realized I Was Not Alone, When I Joined Tata Steel, Ft. Amartya Samanta, Tata Steel

Amartya realized early in his life that something about him was different from his other friends. He went on hiding his emotions and sexuality for years, till he got posted as an engineer at Tata Steel in Jamshedpur. He started meeting gay men thanks to a dating app in Jamshedpur and that is when he came to know more about his sexuality. His idea about the LGBTQ community got further shaped up through various interactions within the Tata Steel Group, which gave him courage to finally come out of the metaphorical closet.

No SC/ST Faculty in IIM A, B, C

Remember the stories of Ramayana and Mahabharata? There was always a mention of the sacred guru-shishya (teacher-student) bond. Unfortunately, in those times, the transaction of knowledge was only reserved for people of a certain class and caste. Thankfully, we don’t live in that kind of world anymore. Or do we? While, the number of ST, SC and OBC students is slowly rising in institutes of higher education, the case is not the same for faculty and scholars. In a working paper co-written by Siddharth Joshi (Doctoral Student, IIM B) and Deepak Malghan (Associate Professor, IIM B) titled - Missing Scholars: Social Exclusion at the Indian Institutes of Management, it was found out that, “As of January 2018, of the 642 faculty members across the 13 IIMs, 4 were from the Scheduled Caste (SC) and 1 from the Schedule Tribe (ST) categories.” This report comes as a shock since SCs/STs represent more than a quarter of the country’s population!

The Scope For Quality Education In Rural India

The Scope For Quality Education In Rural India

The role of education in an individual’s personal growth, skill development & democratic responsible behaviour, thereby contributing immensely to the overall prosperity of a nation, is irrefutable. India has a significant drop-out ratio with some BIMARU states exceeding 50% before standard 10th. Quality of education in government-run schools with a skewed teacher-student ratio is not appropriate. The lack of basic amenities like library, clean toilets, and playgrounds further adds to the drop out ratio.

Not Just A Maids’ Daughter

Not Just A Maids’ Daughter

One blissful morning, I was enjoying the pleasant rain with my mother's special lemon tea and her unending family chit chat just when our maid arrived, accompanied by three of her children who did not go to school today as the rainwater had made it impossible for the students and teachers to reach school. I offered them some snacks and was curious to know more about their studies due to the sensitive nature of mine. They were excited to talk about their school schedule and how they played various games and learned many interesting things while playing in school. Thanks to the efforts of the teachers even with the little resources they had a lot to share.

The human spirit is one of ability, perseverance, and courage that no disability can steal away. The potential for greatness lies within each one of us for there are no limits on the human mind, no walls around the human spirit and no barriers to our growth except those that we self-impose.

Caring For Society | A Glimpse Into CSR At ITC Munger

As a student of Human Resources Management from XLRI, it is always a delight to have an opportunity to see things in a realistic setting. Since day 1, my interests have lied strongly in the area of Industrial Relations and Labour Law. I was absolutely delighted when I had the chance to have a plant visit in my dream company - ITC Limited. The location was Munger and we were going to understand the nuances in the production process of their small cigarette division.
