Professor Ashish Nanda, Director, IIM Ahmedabad, inaugurated the event and opened it to the audience for a dialogue on issues related to recruitment. Some of the topics raised by the conclave participants revolved around expectations of one-year MBA students, career goals and industry perspectives. Prof. Ajay Pandey (Dean, Programmes), Prof. G. Raghuram, (Dean, Faculty), Prof. Arvind Sahay (Dean, Alumni & External Relations), and Prof. Rekha Jain (Faculty) also attended the event and provided their inputs during the discussions.
The event included a panel discussion on “Alternate Channels for Lateral Hiring.” Prof. Biju Varkkey (Faculty, IIMA) moderated the panel discussion and the panelists included Prof. G. Raghuram (Dean, Faculty, IIMA), Prof. T V Rao (Faculty, IIMA), Dr. Santrupt Misra (CEO, Global Carbon Black Business, and Director, Global Human Resources, Aditya Birla Group), Dr. Hasit Joshipura (MD, India, GSK Pharma) and Mr. Yogi Sriram (Senior Vice President, Corporate HR, L&T). The panel discussed the need for filling talent gaps at middle and senior-manager positions through campus placements and deliberated on aspects like diversity and inclusiveness of profiles, availability of experienced and differentiated talent pool, institutional and industry support for pursuing higher education, the need to increase industry-academia interaction and other initiatives.
Prof. Kirti Sharda, Placement Chairperson of IIM Ahmedabad said, “Through this event, we aim to continue our journey towards understanding the recruitment environment and explore how we can deliver on the emerging needs of the new landscape. We see this as not only IIM Ahmedabad’s journey but it’s also a quest to improve recruitment practices in the entire B-school ecosystem and move towards a more enabled and effective community.”
Nikhil Dash, a member of organizing committee and a PGPX student from IIM Ahmedabad said, “The event saw participation from industry and academic thought leaders who met to discuss and brainstorm over issues of contemporary HR practices. Some of the most respected HR practitioners and business leaders were present in the conclave this year. The discussion also clarified many myths regarding students’ expectations from jobs.”
IIM Ahmedabad has been organizing Recruiters Conclave over the years, which have focused on understanding the needs and requirements of all the stakeholders involved in campus recruitments. The previous conclaves have discussed issues ranging from engaging global recruiters, placement reporting standards and creating innovative recruitment practices and processes for campus placements.
