What is the XAT Score?

Prior to delving into the analysis of the XAT score versus percentile in 2023, let's grasp the concept of the XAT score. It refers to the cumulative marks obtained by a student in the XAT exam, taking into account the designated marking scheme. The XAT Scorecard does not provide the XAT Score itself but instead presents the XAT Percentage and XAT Percentile. The Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) consists of a total of 76 questions, which are used to calculate the percentile based on merit. These questions are divided into three sections. The three sections are Verbal and logical Ability, Decision Making, Quantitative Ability, and Data Interpretation.

In the XAT exam, there are a total of 102 questions, with 101 of them being in multiple-choice format and 1 question requiring a descriptive essay response. Out of these, the 25 questions in the General Knowledge (GK) section are not considered when calculating the XAT percentile. Here is the question distribution

  • 26 MCQs for Verbal and Logical Ability
  • 22 MCQs for Decision Making
  • 28 MCQs for Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation
  • 25 MCQs for General Knowledge
  • 1 Question for Essay Writing

How to calculate the XAT Score?

It is crucial to comprehend the calculation method for the XAT score.

Candidates can utilize the following steps to determine their XAT score:

  • In the XAT exam, each correct answer in the multiple-choice questions (MCQs) is awarded +1 mark. (Verbal & Logical Ability, Decision Making, Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation)
  • However, an incorrect attempt results in a penalty of -0.25 marks. Additionally, a candidate is not allowed to leave more than 8 questions unanswered. If there are more than 8 unattempted questions, each of them incurs a penalty of -0.10 marks.
  • It is important to note that the General Knowledge Section does not have any negative markings. Do not account for it while counting your final score as well.

XAT PERCENTILE

What is the XAT Percentile?

A percentile is a metric utilized to assess the proportion of students in the merit list who rank above or below a specific individual. For instance, achieving a 70 percentile on the XAT exam indicates that 70% of the test takers obtained lower scores than you. Consequently, candidates with a percentile of 70 or higher can be considered part of the top 30 % among all the test takers.

How to calculate the XAT percentile?

Prior to conducting the analysis of XAT score versus percentile in 2023, candidates should grasp the underlying mathematical concept of XAT percentiles. XAT percentiles function in a similar manner to percentiles in other exams. They serve as an indication of the number of individuals XAT has achieved lower scores than you in the test. Essentially, the XAT marks versus percentile analysis enable us to determine our performance relative to other candidates. Here is the formula for calculating XAT percentiles in 2023:

XAT Percentile = (1 - All India Rank / Total Candidates in the Exam) * 100%.
An Example: If a total of 80000 students took the XAT exam and you achieved a rank of 3000, your XAT percentile can be calculated using the following formula:

Your XAT percentile = [1 - { 3000/80000}] * 100 = 96.25 Percentile
