With another year beckoning, the School of Human Resources Management & Labour Relations at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences is here again with the 21st edition of the annual management-cum-cultural extravaganza Manthan. As the name suggests, Manthan is the churning into the world of the known & the unknown from the lucid to the ambiguous.
Every year Manthan is strewn around a common theme, setting up a background score for the ensemble of events that adorn it.The theme for this year’s edition is “Iridescent Hues” exploring the spectrum of differences around us and delving into its nuances that unite us in its diversity.
Manthan unleashes with it a string of events ranging from the world of business to that of the HR domain, packed in a 3-day conglomeration housed in the verdant campus of TISS, Mumbai. It provides a platform for participants across the premier B-school to churn on from issues related to the world of business, leadership, human resources and industrial relations to the niceties of music, choreography & dramatics.
The event has had a grandeur legacy of being a host to the avant-garde of our times ranging from the world of Corporate to Bollywood to Humanities to Mythology and what not. The eminent personalities to have graced in the past include Arunachalam Muruganantham, Yash Mahadik, Boman Irani, Devdutt Patnaik, Gurcharan Das, Capt. Gopinath, Devdutt Patnaik, Pallav Patankar, Supriya Goswami, Azim Premji, Harsh Mariwala, Arun Maira.
Manthan has also been adorned by the mesmerising performances of Taufiq Qureshi & Sunita Bhuyan. These greatest minds &artistes have continued to greet us with the awe of their rigour and outlandish temperament over the years now.
Manthan thus invokes us to raise above our zones of comforting snugness & confront our essence existence.
This year the luminaries adorning our fest will include Ashwin Sanghi(author of renowned books like Chanakya Chants), David Oxley(CHRO at Reliance, assigned by BP) & Srijan Pal Singh(author & social entrepreneur who’s also co-authored with APJ Abdul Kalam).
Besides all the action packed events with exciting prizes, we also grace our guests with our very own flea market which is the getaway for some pocket-friendly shopping spree(which we love to call as Manthan Mela) ranging from apparels, accessories, home décor to food, tattoo, caricatures etc.
So gliding through the students’ lifecycle of lectures, assignments, quizzes, eating, sleeping and repeating, we take a Dipstick Survey of our excitement & zeal congenially packaged with our urge to face challenges and overcome them through the churning of our minds to bear the nectar of solutions of the unknown & the ambiguous.
We hope to live up to the level of the expectations & unleash the same energy & enthusiasm this time again. Concluding with the following note from Kahlil Gibran-
“I prefer to be a dreamer among the humblest,
with visions to be realised,
than lord among those without dreams and desires.
So see you all on Feb 10-12th 2017, for Manthan 2017…
About the Author:
Peppery Sweet, sugary salty, atheistically religious, recusant, paradoxically factual, serenely perturbed, are a certain mix of contradictions that define me. I’, a perpetual learner and a disciple of life. Besides enthusing energy in others, I love classic to contemporary music. I’m a firm believer of “Happy is the person who enjoys his/her work”. And not to forget I’m also a first year student of HRM & LR at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.
