How big an organization is, it should be judged based on the impact it makes on society and not on the revenue it creates. Aditya Birla Group is one of those groups which touches various aspects of life which can’t be described in words. It has a variety of brands that have products ranging from basic necessities like Aluminum foils (Hindalco) to luxury brands like Louis Phillippe. They own Idea Telecom which actually promoted the IDEAS like Walk When You Talk. Take the fashion industry, whatever is your buying capacity, ABG fashion brands have it. They range from Peter England, a budget brand to Louis Phillipe, a luxury brand. Ultra Tech cement is used in more than 50% of the projects. It truly is THE Engineer’s Choice. MORE supermarket has made the life of people living in Metro Cities very easy. In the education field, the likes of Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Birla Public School have had a great impact on the lives of countless students. In the agriculture sector, IGF is impacting millions of farmers’ life. ABG has many hospitals and medical stores that run 24/7. And if you want peace of mind, you might find a Birla Temple nearby in your city. Thus is the impact of this group on the society which makes it one of the leading brands of our country.
Martin Luther King Jr. has said: "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy". I would like to give a little background before coming to the point. I come from a small village in Eastern Rajasthan. I have had my schooling done from a town nearby. Back then, there was no English Medium school and no coaching institute nearby. If someone wanted to prepare for JEE (Entrance exam for IITs and NITs) or NEET (Entrance exam for MBBS), he/she would have to go to Kota, Jaipur or Delhi. This has not changed even now.
Coming to point, when I completed my 10th class, I decided not to go to these cities and to continue in the town only. I had confidence in me that I can crack the exam without joining any coaching. Most of my friends (almost everyone) started to mock me for the same. They used to say this is how it used to be and this is how it will be, you can’t even think of going to a renowned college if you are studying here but as I said I had confidence in me, I kept preparing.
But as Joseph Goebbels has said “A lie told once remains a lie but a lie told a thousand times becomes the truth”, it started impacting me when I was in 12th class. It didn’t become truth to me but it started seeming like the truth. At that point, I lost my confidence and felt very low. At that point in my life, my father kept motivating me and helped me gain my confidence back.
On 29th July 2013, I had my first class in NIT Allahabad. The very people, who used to mock me came to me and congratulate. This incident has taught me that one should never undermine the power of self-believe, if used correctly, it can do wonders.
