While pursuing engineering in Electronics and Communications, I interned at Idea Cellular Ltd (now Vodafone Idea Ltd.). It was my first internship and very first exposure to the corporate culture which proved very fruitful later. I started working after my graduation and still remember the day I got my first salary. Though a man of few words, I caught my father deftly wiping a tear as I gifted him a Louis Philippe shirt from my first salary.
Two years later, I was in absolute jitters a few days before my IIFT interview process. I knew it was my first and only chance and I had to ace it. To look and feel confident on the D-Day, I bought a formal suit from Allen Solly. The rest, as they say, is history. (I still consider it my lucky suit!).
"The greater the risk, the bigger the reward."
My parents always instilled in me the courage to accept my shortcomings, improve upon them and to follow my heart. The previous year, I realized I was waking up and going to work every day but that was not where I wanted to be. More than a challenge, it was a constant battle in my head that resulted in several sleepless nights. Leaving a well-paying job that enables you to pay the bills, travel every month and party every weekend was one of the most difficult decisions I had to take. The catch was, “I” was taking that decision for myself and that was a first. I followed my heart and took the plunge. Now here I am, studying at my dream college. Aditya Birla Group has always inspired me with its attitude to accept its shortcomings and transform for its betterment. To quote a few instances, ABG successfully sold its chain of retail stores-MORE after struggling to make it succeed. When rival network providers started gaining popularity and eating into its business, Idea and Vodafone merged to combine their large customer base and have now become the network provider with the highest number of subscribers. Apart from all the other lessons, the visionary group has been an indispensable part of our lives and taught us- Change is the only constant.
