My parents reached a point in their life when they wanted to buy their own house. We finally found our home and when we were enquiring about the materials used, we came to know that Ultratech cement was the first choice of the civil engineer.
As life progressed, I took up engineering. There was network issues in my college and Vodafone had the best connection in that area. I subscribed to it, was very happy with the service and continued it in office and still use it in IIFT.
Facing the Challenge
Our team was given a task to prepare a script which would delete data older than 28 days. In the next meeting, it was decided in consultation with higher management to increase the period to 3 months. A team-member ran the script without modifying the time period and this led to loss of some business-critical data from the application. We had the task to retrieve it as soon as possible as this data was useful for financial purposes. The application served as the master database which was referenced by teams for variety of applications.
We first tried to uniquely identify customers for which data was lost but it was a time taking task and we had to communicate with the specific customer as restoring will lead to down-time for the customer. The whole team was simultaneously doing it for different customer and this lead to a system slow-down. After looking for all options, the team came to a conclusion to overwrite the whole data. The data volume was huge and someone needed to take the lead, I stepped in. The data flow had to be maintained to prevent the system from crashing. This required me to continuously monitor the system requirements and work on making it stable. I had to involve the right teams from different locations whenever needed and instruct on the loading rate. I also had to communicate the updates to higher management. The teamwork and structured execution led to delivering a stable system well before expected timelines.
