I am a person who used to depend on my parents for everything. Even my clothes that I used to wear would be selected and bought by my parents by inquiring about my interests. Not even once until my secondary education did I feel the need to go shopping for clothes. When I joined in IIT Madras, that was my first time leaving my family for a period of four years. This was when I realized how dependent I was on my parents and started to work things through on my own. One of the most challenging tasks was to buy clothes on my own since I didn’t have prior experience. This is when Pantaloons made my life easier. They made sure their stores are at the places where most of their target market is present. As a result, I could find the store easily and the quality of the apparel is very high for the prices that they sell them for which is a bonus for me. I have also taken a Pantaloon platinum card after a couple of visits to the store. Even now Pantaloons is my go-to offline store for my apparel. I even persuaded my friends to visit the store. The fact that 70% of the brands being sold in Pantaloons are owned by the company itself, it shows the value they give to their products.
"If you start working hard on something that you desire, then your work feels more like a hobby and you will enjoy doing it every time."
This is something that I strongly believe in and try to follow. Over the past 23 years of my life I was blessed with the basic needs and amenities and also the freedom to choose my career path which provided me the desire to be more recognizable and standout of a group. I decided to focus on my education and completed my Bachelor of Technology at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. I had a couple of job opportunities out of which I chose to work for a start-up hoping it would provide me the exposure and network to go about and lay a foundation for my long-term plan of scaling a start-up. My role was Marketing analyst and I didn’t have any prior knowledge of marketing. This made my life difficult right from the joining day. I had to work for more 14 hours a day to get familiarized with the marketing models and the practices of the company and further develop them. I used to spend no working hours to get familiarized with the concepts that I have to deal with and that would be my routine. After working for a year, I realized I need a more organized way of learning to improve my skills as well as the company’s profits. I need to work harder for myself to be more visible to the world and started preparing for MBA entrance. I cleared the MBA entrance and got into FMS, one of the most prestigious colleges in India and well known for its rich culture and vast network of alumni. I want to change the way we educate our next generation. I want them to chase life styles instead of jobs. I want to scale a start-up along that path helping them chase their dreams and making it their hobby. I am hoping to find more people along my path who resonate with my line of thought and partner with me in launching my plan that transforms interest into a hobby and encourages the next generation to be more diversified with their career and life styles.
