I have spent 14 months of my corporate life being associated with the Birla family at Birla Mills Complex, working at Kalindee Rail Nirman, a subsidiary of Texmaco Rail & Engineering limited. Texmaco. Texmaco Rail & Engineering Ltd is one of India's leading freight car manufacturers and diversified engineering company. The company is the largest supplier of wagons to the Indian Railways in India with strong in-house capabilities for the design and manufacture of special purpose wagons for core sectors such as cement, coal, alumina, steel, container freight cars, oil, chemicals, fertilizers, thermal power projects and defence sector among others. They also manufacture sugar mill machineries, industrial boilers, cryogenic and pressure vessels, chemical plant equipment and agro-machinery such as power tillers. The Company was formed after demerger into it of the Heavy Engineering and Steel Foundry Divisions of the parent company Texmaco Ltd., founded in 1939 by the renowned industrialist, Late Dr. K.K. Birla. Texmaco Rail & Engineering Limited is an engineering and infrastructure company and it is presently the flagship company of the Adventz Group, headed by the Chairman Mr. Saroj Kumar Poddar, comprising renowned companies, such as, Zuari Agro Chemicals Limited, Zuari Infraworld India Limited and Hettich India Pvt Limited.
Working at Kalindee, Birla Mills Complex was an experience of lifetime. During my stints at Texmaco, I handled business development meetings, involving RFP, tender/contract negotiations and gained experience in client interaction & business expansion. This gave me a platform where I could interact with CEOs, DMs and OEMs. I gained experience in client interaction & also did business expansion by preparing techno-commercial offers for national & international Metro-Railways tenders and Smart City projects ranging from 30 to 2604 Crores. I was part of the crucial team at Kalindee which brought in tender projects of Mumbai Metro Line 3 and Bangladesh Kalluru Line Railway tender which were of 110 Crore and 440 Crores respectively. This gave me a plethora of experience and the requisite confidence to face the world.
Public Speaking - I went overboard
Challenges are a part of everyday life. They make us stronger and without them life becomes somewhat meaningless because we have nothing to compare the good times to.
These challenges come in many forms. For some, the challenge is doing well at school, for others it is getting to grips with financial worries.
But, regardless of the challenge, facing up to it is key. Doing so will make you feel like you can take care of yourself, it will also make you understand the value of what you have now.
Even though I was a very extrovert child but somehow, I grew a fear of public speaking during my 11
th standard. When I entered college, somehow this challenge expanded on seeing such multitude of talent peers. I decided to tackle this challenge head on. I auditioned for the stage team as a stage anchor. I came through. I practiced day and night in front of the mirror, so I don’t screw up on the stage. My friends encouraged me and taught me the intricacies of it. How to handle the stage fear and to be confident on stage. I was responsible for introducing the Guest and I came through. Later, I performed a group stage too. The video was widely shared among my peers. I was congratulated by my seniors and juniors like.
This is how I overcame my fear of public speaking and this helped me later on while interacting with notable people of the industry like CEOs, DMs, and IPS level cadre officers of the Smart City SPVs.
