The ABG has been influencing and inspiring people all over the world for many years now. It is the flagbearer of the Indian business caliber in the global platform with a presence in over 34 countries and an employee strength of 120,000, belonging to 42 nationalities. In this article though, I would want to state how ABG has been BIG in the life of an aspiring business leader in the initial years of his journey and has been a part of him through some testing times. Being the only child of a single mother, I have seen first hand the struggle a person faces having to handle home and work, a child’s education and her own career, coming from nothing to securing a roof over one’s family’s head and providing the child the freedom to aspire for the greatest achievements in life. ABG’s Ultratech division helps fulfil the dreams of such strong willed individuals by helping build homes which are as strong as the will of the hardworking Indian man/woman. ABG’s apparel sector provides affordable and quality clothing for the highly motivated aspiring individuals hoping to make the best impression the could on their first interview to get into their dream Institute or securing their dream job. Their Freshwrap keeps the food our mothers make for us when we are going on our journeys fresh and tasting the same as when it just came down from the stove. Even miles away from home, it keeps us connected with our family and our roots with its Idea network spread all over the nation. ABG is big. BIG in our lives and helping us become better every step of the way. Helping us achieve our dreams and staying with us through the entire journey of life, making big and small contributions in various sectors to make our lives better each step of the way.

My single largest achievement so far has been getting an admission in IIM Raipur as a PGP student. I had always been a promising student and naturally expectations were high. Unfortunately, after an impeccable record of academics and extra curriculars in my school, I performed horribly average in my 12th boards. After the results were out my confidence took a big hit and for a brief period in time I began second guessing my decisions and spent a lot of time regretting past events. That time, I now realize, could definitely have been spent more productively. However, after a brief trough in my growth curve, I began working again at my aim to be among the best. During my preparation for getting into a business school I got to know myself a lot better than I ever had before. I no longer ignored my weaknesses but rather worked on them. During the process I got to know my likes and dislikes and actually made a genuine effort to improve myself as a person. I stopped taking academics and many other things for granted. This preparatory phase helped me overcome my lack of confidence and helped me grow emotionally. The acceptance of my candidature was the cherry on top and I mean to make the most of this opportunity and improve in leaps and bounds from now on till the end. I regret letting down the expectations of everyone during my higher secondary days. The investment that went into my education had been huge and I took everything for granted. I lacked the basic maturity to understand that success doesn’t come free. Hours of blood and sweat need to be put in. Since then I’ve made amends as much as I could to rectify the mistakes made. I also stopped being self-obsessed and tried to do my bit in giving back to the society by teaching under-privileged kids at Children’s Homes in Kolkata. This activity gave me a whole new sense of purpose and I felt passionate about continuing this activity all my life. It made me appreciate my position a whole lot more. I am still learning a lot about the world and myself and I hope this never stops. I hope to inspire and influence many of my peers to give back to the world as much as they have received, and if possible a bit more.   #IIMRaipur #ABLPWooMe #AdityaBirlaLeadershipProgramme
