‘Tring’ ‘Tring’ ‘Tring’.... the morning alarm that I had set the night before had gone off. Being in the state between sleep and wakefulness my mind, as usual, started to ignore it. Soon the war started on two fronts – to get up or to sleep for some time more. It then flashed in my mind that today I have to report to IIFT for pursuing my dream MBA. Excited, I sprang off from bed to get prepared.
The day was 25th June 2018, I hired a cab and finally reached Kolkata campus with my belongings. I was immediately allotted a hostel room and then a feeling of accomplishment swept my mind that I am an IIFTian now. An orientation programme was scheduled in the morning and my life changed once and for all.
The small, cosy, red coloured campus attracted me. I wanted to enjoy every bit of my life here on the campus. The small ponds with colourful fishes, a wall of painting portraying the rich Indian history, smiling warm-hearted security guards and welcoming seniors and faculties all made me feel contended from the core of my heart.
During my initial days, I met with people across India, chatting, laughing, giggling and of course introducing each other. It was termed as Mini India, the common buzz word. During this short period, I came to know each one of my batch mates. Here everyone needs to put in a tremendous amount of rigour. One is forced to remain occupied all the time be it studies, assignments, presentations, team work or parties. Parties at the institute are crazy nights with real fun where one can break free. I can recall a funny incident when rain dance was arranged in one such occasion, however, unfortunately, we didn’t get drenched as water pouring could not materialise due to some reason. The hectic lifestyle has made me much more resilient, four hours of sleep now seems enough and my lifestyle has adjusted to the tsunami of assignments. By moving out of my comfort zone, everything has changed for me for the better. My takeaway from IIFT in this short period is ‘Until you cross the bridge of insecurities, you can’t begin to explore your possibilities’. The system here creates modern day managers who are also moulded to become responsible corporate citizens.

ABG Company:
As such, pursuing MBA in IIFT has instilled the required confidence in me to join a Fortune 500 company like Aditya Birla Group where the work culture is combination of empowerment, trust, care and values. Being awarded ‘AON best employer in India for 2018’, the company provides unique opportunity for employees in terms of learning, career development, recognition and family well-being. It is one of the best companies to learn retail management and hence I want to join the Aditya Birla Retail Limited.
