Reminiscing Childhood:
Food has been at the epicenter of human life cycle, from the time we are in cradle to the time we are put in a coffin; food has been an integral part of our life. But today I am not gonna talk about food as such I am going to talk about something that complements our food. You remember when you were small, and used to take tiffin boxes to school. The wait to open it during the lunch break to eat that yummy food your mommy has prepared for it, ‘that’s precious’. I still remember that feeling; I remember mid 90s we used to carry tiffin with chapattis wrapped in newspapers. The drawback of this was first of all the chapattis had become moist and stale and sometimes the ink of the newspaper was all over the chapattis. I believe food is one of the few things that can change our mood, if we are dull or angry and then get our favorite food; automatically we forget our worries and start enjoying the food and vice-versa. But the end of 90s I remember seeing one of my friends taking out a shiny metallic wrapping paper out of his tiffin box, and from that he unwrapped chapattis. We being the curious lot that we were, just wanted to know what was going on, and the moment we took our first bite from his tiffin, we realized this was something we had to ask our mom’s to use to wrap the chapattis. Next day my mom got the first roll of ‘Freshwrapp Aluminium Foil’ from the market. And then there was no looking back, it been close to 20 years and I am still using the same for my daily use of preserving edible items.
Life as I lead it:
On a dark Wednesday night of 1992, a boy made his presence felt in this world, he was as white as snow, the boy was so beautiful and fair that he could give complex to ‘Snow White’ of the fairy tale “Snow white and the Seven Dwarfs.” But then Fate had some other plans for him, he had to learn the harsh truth of life that people don’t see heart, they only see your appearance and judge you, so after a week he fell sick and was suffering from high fever, that illness took away all the happiness from the child’s life, his fair complexion turned into dark complexion. He got admission in a co-ed school, where no one used to talk to him, and everyone used to treat him as untouchables. He used to value friendship very dearly, but no one wanted to be his friends, he was all alone. This affected his life to a great extent, he started having inferiority complex, he started despising himself, and he had lost all hope in life. These things affected his grades as well and even though he was a bright kid he started flunking his exams, and the situation was so bad that his school didn’t want to promote him to 10th Standard and bring shame to the school, as they knew he would flunk the board exams as well. But there was only one teacher who had faith in his abilities, and who fought tooth and nail for getting this kid a chance to prove himself. I am happy to say that the kid didn’t disappoint his teacher, and not only did he clear his board exams but he did it even after having his left hand facture just a week before the board exams. After clearing class 12th he left his hometown for higher education. Suddenly this guy became mature, he started taking life seriously. And there was no looking back, he conquered all his fears to reach his goals and I would say he is quite content with the life he is leading right now. The kid in the story is the guy who is writing this story, ‘Abhishek Agarwal’
