In 1857, two great and historical things started, the first war of Indian independence and a great
Indian multinational conglomerate, “Aditya Birla Group” established by Seth Shiv Narayan Birla. This
conglomerate is spread out in various sectors and has a revenue of approximately US$44.3 billion in
the year 2018. They have operations in more than 35 countries with more than 120,000 employees.
Aditya Birla Group has touched and elevated lives of almost every individual in India. From UltraTech
Cement used in roads and bridges to clothes from Pantaloons Fashion & Retail, Aditya Birla Group
touches the lives of every person.
This fantabulous conglomerate has also touched my life at various important moments of my life and
has become an internal part of me and my family. My father always wanted to construct a villa, and
use all premium good quality material. We went for UltraTech cement because it is best in quality.
So, the villa I have been staying in, the villa that has strong walls, wouldn’t have been possible
without UltraTech cement.
Another important moment of my life where Aditya Birla Group products stood with me it was my
journey to IIM Raipur. I wore Peter England shirt and Van Heusen trousers on the day of my CAT
exam and then wore Louis Phillippe suit for interviews. The quality products of these brands
definitely boosted up my confidence and helped me perform at my level best. All of these brands are
in house brands of Aditya Birla Group. Once again, Aditya Birla Group touched my life and played a
major life in shaping my future.
Last but not least, how can I forget the tasty paratha’s that my mom used to keep in my tiffin. There
was one thing that kept them fresh, soft and tasty, and that is none other than Freshwrapp from
Hindalco industries, another subsidiary of Aditya Birla Group.
Today, being an MBA student, I really understand the value Aditya Birla Group has added in each and
every human’s life and have definitely elevated the living standards.
One of my ambition has been to help my mother feel empowered. My mother sacrificed her work so
that she could take care of family and help me grow up into an excellent individual.
To make her feel empowered and elevated, I set up a small homemade food delivery system for
close proximity. Challenges with this business were many folds. Firstly, there were many competitors
who were already doing similar business, along with Swiggy and Zomato as well. Secondly, delivering
food till home was extremely time consuming and lastly type of dishes to be served to maximize the
revenue.
To tackle the issue of competition, the first step was to market our food with the tag of “Maa ke
haath ka Khaana”, since there were many bachelors living in my society far from home. We also
made a point to serve only fresh, hygienic and pure vegetarian food. All these things turned out to
be a nice USP for us.
To tackle the issue of time-consuming home deliveries, I devised a system of block reception
delivery. In which, the customer just need to use the elevator and come down till reception and
collect the parcel. This helped us save almost 5 minutes per delivery as we don’t have to wait for the
elevator anymore. This helped us speed up our delivery process.
Next issue was of menu selection. After the initial month, a pattern was observed, during the start of
the month and on weekdays, people preferred North Indian delicacies whereas coming to end of the
month, people liked to go for junk food. Hence, this analysis helped us alter our menu accordingly.
In the first month, we started with a revenue of 15000 Rs, and currently, our revenue stands around
50000 Rs. Apart from daily orders, we have also started preparing various party boxes or serve in
huge quantities in parties.
This entrepreneurial venture made my mom feel empowered. Currently, she is taking care of the
whole business all by herself since I have come to pursue MBA from IIM Raipur.
