My journey to IIM-L encompasses an entirety of 21 years – a shorter period than what most of the people here have experienced. And in this short period I have managed to have a few remarkably bizarre experiences and a few other clichéd ones.
I can’t plot the exact timeline of all the alterations in my personality but this journey has definitely had more than a few turns. I started out as an energetic child who could never sit still. From there I journeyed to a more serious and somber child who stayed buried in her books. And I stayed buried there till I realized what I had been missing and decided to give the real world more time. I became more outgoing, experiencing some of the best moments of my life. But the energy I had as a child got lost in all the laziness I acquired on the way. However, it still reappears from time to time when I find things I love to do.
Traversing this eventful path, fraught with both triumphs as well as failures, I have managed to reach this final destination of IIM Lucknow. A new set of experiences and memories await here for me and the anticipation has built up to its peak. I don’t know what new pieces of my soul I shall discover here, or what parts of my personality I will change, I just know that it is going to be a learning experience in not just academics, professional and other skills but also in life.
My expectations from this place are nothing out of the ordinary. I expect it to be my alma mater, teach me everything I need to know about this world in which I plan to step into after two years, to help me create memories, to experience novel phenomena, to meet new people. I expect it’ll give me a new perspective, change a part of my being and make its mark on my personality. I expect it to be my home for the next two years.
I expect it to be a simulation of the real world where I’m meeting hundreds of to-be professionals and learning the ropes of the corporate world. Except that this simulation exists in a friendly bubble where even though I’m exposed to the perils of the outer world, I’m still protected. But I expect that it shall be good practice for the future and help me grow up a little more.
