In 1857, while the first struggle for independence was underway, a revolution was taking birth in Mumbai. Seth Shiv Narayan Birla laid the foundation of the Aditya Birla Group which, a century and a half later, would transform the lives of more people than existed on the globe at the time.
From textiles and fertilisers to cement and concrete, the Aditya Birla Group has touched and bettered the lives of millions all over the globe. Barely anyone would have the misfortune of saying that they have never used a commodity produced by the Aditya Birla Group. From little kids carrying fresh and warm lunch packed in Hindalco Freshwrapp to a corporate executive wearing a shirt from Peter England; from a soldier in a remote area calling his family using the omnipresent Vodafone Idea network to a college student enjoying the latest TV shows produced by Applause Entertainment, there is no dearth of people whose lives have been influenced by the Aditya Birla Group on a daily basis.
One can very conveniently say that it is the Aditya Birla Group that is the boss of all conglomerates all over the world. Not just in business, the Aditya Birla Group even has the bragging rights to the Birla Institutes of Technology that produces high-quality engineers year after year. No other company can claim to have an influence that can match that of the Aditya Birla Group – the company founded way before our independence that has innovated tremendously in fields much varied and incredibly diverse.
Being the son of a single mother, I have had to face a fair share of challenges – economic uncertainty being the most prominent of them. Seeing my Mother work beyond her capacity to provide for me and ensure that I would have a good future, I became determined and developed a resolve to make her proud of me. Due to the situation at home, it was difficult for me to have a social life while in school and I decided to devote myself to my academics which lead to me scoring well in class 10th. In college, I decided to focus on my social skills as I had found that I was lacking in them. I participated extensively in the college club activities and won several events focused on public speaking such as technical paper presentation, debates, and group discussions. This lead to me becoming increasingly confident in myself and I was able to develop myself holistically. I also developed a habit to read the newspaper and keep myself updated which eventually helped me crack my CAT interview with ease. Throughout my life, I have sought out my weaknesses and have improved upon them in an endeavour to become a better and more competent person. I have one thing that I can say that I am extremely proud of – I never gave up. Of course, none of it would have been possible had it not been for my Mother and her efforts, and the credit for my attitude and any humble achievement of mine is all due to her.
