Life At Udaipur - Shubhankar Singh, IIM Udaipur

Selecting best of the best is one of the toughest decisions in life. I had conversion calls from all new IIMs, but selection had to be more judgemental. I started drafting different parameters to validate my decision. Faculty, exposure, learning opportunities, campus support system, placements, campus life and peer learning were some parameter on which my decision had to be based on. After spending complete 15 days of research on B-school, IIM Udaipur was considered to be my first choice.

Getting in IIMU  got me a bit relaxed, but within a week, I realized that "Picture Abhi Baki Hai." Those sleepless nights and sacrosanct deadlines scared me of the corporate world. So the great transformation started with the design thinking and dare-to-lead workshops. Training to become future leaders started with a set pattern of psychology, classroom courses, rules & regulations were imposed for conversion.

Focus is the key element to success. This gives formation to clubs and committee , so segregate the work and do it in a perfectionist way. IIMU has all type of clubs ranging from the Placement Committee to Trekking Club. This gives opportunities to all student to learn and contribute in raising the bar.

I was part of the sponsorship team for "Solaris" which was themed "Sustainability and Disruption". The corporate leaders endowed with knowledge and experience shared their contemporary viewpoints towards management.

Preparing for "Tell me about yourself," question asked during the Summer Internship interviews was an opportunity to do some self-realization. The best thing in my life is I have been working with the noblest and innovative minds throughout my life. Management is considered as best course I choose to shape my career and for the betterment of social responsibility. Every century comes different sets of challenges and opportunities, the best way to tackle them is to adopt the most exceptional principle with the defined probability of success.

I will be learning a lot in two years of my course starting from a classical approach to contemporary approach and sustainability approach which is the demand for future generation. To become a successful leader one has to understand the changing scenario of production and how geographical and statistically dynamics affect the society. The manager has to take the responsibility to make society ahead, and mutual trust and respect between corporate and community have to be encouraged. The core competence in leadership has to be the new benchmark for upcoming leaders. Which ABG company would I want to work for and why?

Fashion is most challenging and growth incentive industry in India. Aditya Birla fashion and retail is my first preference to work with. Understanding the needs of different segments and satisfying their needs for apparels is consider to be challenging as we have to work according to consumer psych and appealing trends of the time. In terms of growth, this industry have lots of potential and the economic strata of Indian customers are also increasing, which shows a clear picture. Aditya retail store like pantaloons show different variety with quality consideration which in turn increase retention ratio.
