I come from a small town in Jharkhand , Bagodar . I did my initial schooling in my hometown and since it is a village and I had a humble background I had to study from a vernacular medium school . Here I never tried to speak in English In front of people and this made me believe that I can’t communicate in English. I took it as a fact and never tried to communicate in English till my final year of B.Tech .
In my seventh semester , Infosys was visiting my campus and it was the best company for us in placement drive. I wanted to get placed in it but I was sure that I can’t do it because I was sure I won’t be able to communicate in English in front of interviewer. I lost before taking the battlefield. I lost from myself. After that I talked with my parents and I felt that they have so much expectations from me and are not feeling good about my decisions.
I decided to try as much as I can and I started to take feedback about my communication from my friends and faculties . A lot of comments were disheartening but I was determined to do this and I started reading English newspapers , watching English movies , daily reading for 2-3 hours and also communicating with my friends in English no matter how much they make fun of me.
In the next two months I did not became a brilliant speaker but my fear of speaking in front of anyone was gone and I cleared the Infosys interview . I am still trying to improve my communication skill but my hard work paid off the day I was able to clear the GD-PI process of Faculty of Management Studies , One of the premier B-School.
