My father is in a transferable job and we had to frequently shift residence from one part of the country to another. This presented a huge challenge and I have had to change several schools. By the time you settle down and have a group of friends, it’s time to move on again. Different schools had varying curriculum and different ways of teaching a subject. Even the third language offered in schools was different when we were transferred rom Mumbai to Delhi.
I envied those who studied in the same school from class 1 to 12. There were students whose parents had also studied in the same school. I initially found it difficult to adjust to repeated changes in schools. It can be difficult to join groups of students who unlike me had studied together for several years and knew how to go about things. The teachers were also unfamiliar. I thought about this and took it as a challenge. I realized that working with different people, reaching out and stepping outside your comfort zone is an essential life skill. I saw this challenge as an opportunity to grow, and also have an all India circle of friends. I reached out to new schoolmates and teachers and soon had lots of friends and a good rapport with the teachers.
Looking back, I think the repeated transfers helped me develop greater confidence and adaptability and this was a great opportunity to grow. This will help me achieve my ambitions in life.
