Summers of 2017...They were not the usual distraught ones marked by the sun and the heat. They brought along with them not just the scorch of the sun but also the excitement of the beginning of a new phase. Over the course of a year, MBA had given me truckloads of experience and the best of them was yet to be experienced. I had been to Mumbai several times before but this time my visit was purposeful.Came April 2nd and along with it the zeal of being beckoned by the land of dreams, also famously called Mumbai. As I stepped into the precincts of Beverly Park, my abode for the next two months, I realised that I was going to strike off yet another achievement off my list to work with the largest and most prestigious conglomerates of our nation-Reliance.While I knew that this is a golden opportunity for me to exhibit my talent and I would have to work laboriously, the sweet nothings given to us by Reliance, in the form of goodies, motivated me all the more. Already overwhelmed to an extent that knew no bounds, my zest overpowered me as we were accorded a hearty welcome in Asia's largest boardroom. We, a clique of inquisitive interns actively interacted with the prodigious and dapper veterans of the industry. This was followed by a two-month long period of rigorous work and unlimited fun. I was blessed to be a part of a project that gave me the opportunity to have dialogues with individual business leaders of RIL. This helped me gain insights about numerous operations running in one of the most successful conglomerates in the history of Indian economy. The learning at RIL helped edify my appetite for finance as I got a chance to work in the FC&A (Finance, compliance and accounting) Department of RIL. My project required me to improvise various sections of the annual.report and I also got a chance to connect with leaders from the treasury department, which was an ecstatic experience for a finance enthusiast like me. While the on job learnings were wholesome, Reliance augmented the whole experience of summers through its various employee engagement activities. A chance to witness a live cricket match on the birthday of the God of Cricket-Sachin, a joyride in the private aircraft of Reliance, primordial temple visits at the largest refinery of Asia, Jamnagar-they gave us all of it and more. Reliance is truly the quintessential example of an organisation that knows how to build a compelling employer brand, and has successfully done so.And on the night of 2nd June, as we returned to our guest house from the farewell that was organised by RIL for us at Ramada, our hearts clenched with pain cause the summers had come to a close. And as I boarded the flight for home, a plethora of emotions came gushing to my mind. I was sad cause Sip had ended, happy that I was one of the chosen few and hopeful that the climax is yet to arrive! A summer internship in RIL and a finance profile -a match made in heaven. With MBA in an esteemed college, the SIP at RIL was just the perfect icing on the cake that I wanted.
