What is the first thought that comes to anyone’s mind if they hear the word MBA? Is it ‘placements’, ’change of career line’, ‘networking’, ‘glamourous roles and designation’? If you observe all these are end goals which one wants to achieve from an MBA. But this course is not just about attaining your end goal. Once you join a B School, you’d realize that the journey and the experience are the best takeaways from your management college. You make great friends and great memories. I joined NMIMS Bangalore in 2018> I realized that the journey is going to be engaging. I joined ‘Udyam’, the social responsibility committee of the college which strives to make future leaders not only aware of the social issues prevailing but also create a sense of responsibility towards society. With the onset of the academic sessions, the students were given a holistic training about the different functions of any business- finance, human resources, marketing, operations, business communication, strategy, and general management. NMIMS Bangalore offers a new specialization, Analytics for all those who want to build their career in this domain. Lots of presentations, assignment, field work, live project shapes the personality of the student and he/she gets to understand the team dynamics and how to work under tight schedules.
The placement committee of the college is the best committee and they work extremely hard for all the students. They work dedicatedly to help each and every student get the jobs they want and also guides us on how to prepare for the summer internships and placements.
As a summer intern, I joined IndianMoney.com, a financial education company. The role offered was a Digital Marketing Intern. For my preparation, I took up certain live projects on digital marketing. Also, I took Digital Marketing Certification from Google Digital Unlocked. I brushed up my basic concepts from I had learned in class and updated myself with current affairs. During the interview, I was asked to write a content and then after the content was evaluated, I was interviewed by a Digital Marketing Manager of the company who asked me questions from my previous work experience at Byju’s as a Business Development Manager and then certain basic concepts from Digital Marketing.
I joined the company in April and these 2 months I got to work on content marketing and employee branding strategies. My articles were published online on platforms like Quora and The Medium. An article should not contain only promotional content. As a content marketer, it is important to understand that the content has to be informative and genuine and should give some value to the reader. Also, I was engaged with video content team while they were making a video on ‘mutual funds’. During my internship in the company, I realized that the current problem the company was facing was visibility and I suggested to incorporate certain plans like radio marketing, podcasts, display advertisements, live chat box and pop up menu on the website for customers who spend more than 30 seconds on the landing page.
I was working with Mr. Mithun VijayKumar, the Digital Marketing Manager of IndianMoney. He had guided me throughout and he gave me interesting assignments to work on. His constructive criticism challenged me and his appreciation motivated me to perform better. He always used to take out time to review my work and provide suggestions despite me being only a temporary intern in the organization. He also discussed with me my career plan and gave his insights on how I can work towards achieving my goal and what skill sets I need to learn for the same.
After working as, a business development manager in my previous company and digital marketing intern for my summer internship, I feel more confident about myself. I am confident that the challenges in any organization will not intimidate me but will enhance my professional growth.
