Tata Steel has a countrywide presence with pants at multiple locations. Started operations in Jamshedpur with 225-acre land in the heart of the city. The lush green campus with many steel structures is what defines the campus of Jamshedpur. In Jamshedpur, the campus has 8 Blast furnaces, 3 Steel melting and 5 mills for the
core operations of steel production. Logistics and Planning, By-products management also occupies a lot of its facility.
Tata Steel has been pioneering worker welfare schemes and community initiatives before the legislation mandated them. Its belief in employee welfare is corroborated in the several ‘firsts’ in employee welfare measures that Tata Steel introduced over time. In India, these include the 8-hour Work Day at their Jamshedpur plant in 1912, the Leave with Pay scheme in 1936 and the Workers’ Provident Fund Scheme in 1920 – all of which were subsequently adopted by the International Labour Organisation and enacted by law in India. Below mentioned table (Fig 1) gives a snapshot of the improvement in workforce benefits and policies done at Tata Steel over a period.
Tata Steel believes that diversity within its workforce greatly enhances its overall capabilities and it has always been a key focus area not only in terms of gender but also minority groups, persons with a disability, ethnicity, linguistic diversity and sexual orientation.
MOSAIC - The Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) initiative at Tata Steel, defines the path of the company to build a people culture that both celebrates and encourages diversity and inclusion. It has a five-pillar approach that covers Recruitment, Sensitization, Retention & Development, Infrastructure & Celebration.
