Part A
Aditya Birla Group (ABG) is many things rolled into one. A Fortune 500 company with an enviable net worth of US $44.3 billion, a brand that has collected numerous accolades over the past 15 years and a humongous conglomerate that caters to the needs of every person or entity out there, be it in the manufacture of Infrastructural Capital goods, Fashion, Telecommunications or Financial services. ABG has etched a name for itself in the Hall of fame of Indian corporates. Its tagline ‘Taking India to the world’ is quite commonplace in print and digital media. ABG takes tremendous pain to make sure its commercials are clean and family-friendly in an expletive-ridden Ad-space. Also, its offerings are known for their classiness and reliability.
My personal experience with ABG, I clearly remember the first mobile phone we bought, It always fascinated me how can a device like mobile phone is able to make calls because I had an impression that a call can only be made by landline which has wire. I can recall my dad explaining & showing me that it has a chip inside this mobile on which IDEA was written through which we are able to make calls without a wire.
Another encounter with ABG, ‘Planet Fashion’ was the first branded clothing store be opened in my hometown. I remember how excited I was visiting the store for the first time. My dad had to shop for himself for my cousins wedding. There were so many brands(AllenSolly, Louis Philippe, Peter England, and Van Heusen etc.), so many options under one roof. Everything seemed so fashionable, sophisticated and high on comfort. Everything was so good that It was getting difficult to choose one. I loved my dad’s outfit so much that I somehow convinced my parents to buy the same outfit for me. I still remember, me and my dad twinning on my cousin’s wedding and getting all those compliments.
Part B
I had no clue what to do after completing my B.Tech, Some of my friends were preparing for either CAT or GATE, few wanted to start something of their own and remaining wanted to join the corporate world. I was not very sure, till then I had no goal in life. I was taking things very casually. I decided to go with the flow. Thankfully I was placed in Infosys . I was very happy & satisfied. My college got over and I was among the few whose joining date did not come. It was time to go back home. Now I was again clueless what to do now till my joining date. So I decided to join my dad’s business. I initially got busy but the kind of work was very monotonous. The work I used to handle was very repetitive and boring. It was almost 4 months after my college got over, I was getting frustrated, I had no clue about my joining date and even was not getting any response about it. I was so frustrated that had totally given up on the thought of even joining Infosys. I soon realised that I need to do something else I will be stuck here only. I always wanted to do something of my own. Few of my friends suggested to give CAT a try. So, I started looking for different career prospects after MBA. After researching a lot I came to final consensus that perusing MBA will help me push my career. So, I used to go office in the morning and used to used to study for CAT during night. I anyhow wanted to crack CAT and get into a top B school. I worked hard and was finally able to get a good percentile and get admission into IMT Ghaziabad.
