The extravaganza was diligently organized. There was a soul to it. A soul that was vibrant, contagious and exuberant. One could feel the vibrancy from the minute one set foot in the campus. The mood was set for celebration with the entire campus decked up with lights, the festive and colourful tone of decorations and the students dressed in their best. The celeb nights gave the audience an opportunity to witness the performance of renowned artists from Bollywood’s Rap Sensation Badshah and Aastha Gill, along with the God of Small Strings, Baiju Dharmajan, to Dj Prinal and Dj Manish, whose thumping beats made the crowd groove to their rhythms and charged up the EDM nights with high-octane adrenaline rushes. The star attractions made sure XUB partied hard! Xamboree gave a platform to everyone. It was the perfect mix of different types of competitive events, right from business and gaming events, to the cultural events. The fest was a great success as it saw participation from every nook and corner of the country. It was all about fun embellished with an enriching learning experience.
All the blood, sweat and toil was worth it, seeing the happy and contented faces all around at the end of the third day. Xamboree is a coming together of different committees which worked symbiotically to make it a grand success. These various student-driven committees organised the management events related to their domain, the cultural committees helped in conducting the various cultural events whereas X-Stec, Xavier’sSteeringCommittee coordinated all the venue preparations and its management. The credit for the success of the fest goes to all the committees involved and cannot be attributed to just a single one.
Few things that one can learn from organizing a fest in a B-School are:
First, planning skills, as an event of such a scale requires formulation of an action plan, budget allocation, and designing the events and competitions. This is an excellent platform to prepare oneself for the corporate world by harnessing this skill.
Second, it helps in honing leadership skills by working with people from diverse background and managing cross-functional teams.
Third, multi-tasking, since students are required to organize the fest while they balance academics and their personal life. This "ambidexterity" is what separates the doers from the dreamers.
And the most important lesson, never be afraid to build something new, cause legacy is followed, but history is created. These are the takeaways from Xamboree, apart from the zillion memories and new friendships that were formed.
