Cherishing The Road Taken – Shiladitya Kar’s Journey To NMIMS Mumbai

Let me give a snapshot as to how I landed up in a b-school. While I was pursuing my graduation at St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, being a musician I was greatly enthused to get big sponsors on board to make a name in college before our batch passed out. When I was a sophomore, I started working very hard for bringing sponsorship for various academic and non-academic fests in my college. You must be wondering why I’m writing all of these. In fact, these meetings with sponsors, getting them on board to make our fest a hit, writing proposals to them, converting one after dozens of futile attempts or calls made me feel ecstatic. Aah! This paved the way to my dream career in Marketing.

I took up Marketing as my area of specialisation in my final year of graduation. I wanted to start off my journey with Marketing even before I joined a b-school, such that I do not have ambiguity in making future career choices. I scored well and thoroughly enjoyed my Advertising and Consumer Behaviour classes during my B.Com days back at Xavier’s. I took up my first internship with Steel Authority of India Limited to know the facets of B2B Marketing. It was a great learning experience, but I knew I had miles to go before I sleep. After graduation, I was determined to take up Sales – to know the on-ground dynamics. I started my career with InterGlobe Aviation Limited (IndiGo) as a Trade Sales Executive. I worked for 6 months and started with my MBA preparation. I used to study during the lunch breaks at my office for the maximum possible utilisation of time. I worked with grit and determination and converted NMIMS Mumbai. I was certain to take up Marketing in my b-school. As my IndiGo stint grossly involved Sales and Account Management, I was determined to take up at least a Marketing internship before NMIMS started. I browsed through my LinkedIn contacts and got in touch with the then East India Marketing Head of Zoomcar and grabbed a kick-ass internship. I honed my soft skills and knowledge in the domains of on-ground market activation, B2C & B2B marketing, competitor analysis, BTL activities, and so on and so forth. Thereafter, I started my much coveted MBA journey with NMIMS and everyday out here is a plethora of activities which are helping me to better my both personal and professional ways of living. I hope, everyone of you chooses and cherishes what you do in life. It is important to be different and unique to break the clutter.

After all, considering the Indian population having the highest number of millennials – it is apt to be a trend setter, than being yet another addition to the bandwagon.
