This is not the right thread. This Q & A is only for those who have scored between 50 and 75 percentile. Add your query here if you haven’t already : https://insideiim.com/community-question/cat-2017-results-enter-scores-percentiles/

I got 92 %in 10th
88 %in 12th
68% in grad
Got 60 %ile in CAT , I am planning to drop this year take a work ex and then give CAT , woul my grad scores hinder me from getting into iims even if I get good %ile next year ?

Team InsideIIM,

replied 1 week ago

@Nikita, the selection process changes every year. There are some b-schools who don’t count grad scores and some b-schools that give weightage to them. It all depends on what the selection criteria is for each IIMs for CAT 2018 selection. Since you are planning to take CAT again this year, follow this thread – https://insideiim.com/community-question/should-i-take-cat-again/?src=50275

It will affect a bit but bein a girl u will get points for gender diversity heat will compensate for it and also some clz gives less/no weightage to grad marks.. good luck.

Thanks man , I will try my best to make it to the next year

@Sasi – Check MYRA, IFIM Bangalore. Also, given your acads you could look at MISB Bocconi profile based call but you may have to take Bocconi Test. You can ask them here : https://insideiim.com/community-question/cat-2017-results-profile-evaluation-for-misb-bocconi-class-of-2020-begins-june-2018/

You can also consider taking GMAT and looking at ISB/GLIM next year.

Grad: 65.20 (Management Studies) (Graduated in August 2017)
CAT 2017: VA:80 %ile, LRDI:64%ile, Quant: 41 %ile. Overall: 65 %ile
Besides CAT I am expecting to score around 85%ile in XAT.
I don’t have work ex right now, as after graduation I thought I will totally focus on CAT but that didn’t turn out well because I didn’t prepare seriously. I was too careless during my preparation. And now I regret that deeply.
My question is should I join an average college like Welingkar / NL Dalmia / GIM / IMT-G (If I get into these b-schools) this year or give a shot next year ? I am also considering to apply for CFA Level 1 June 2018.
I am also looking out for jobs right now as I feel it is very difficult to convert the above colleges at a score of 26-27 in XAT (85 %ile). So what would be your suggestion ? Does a work ex of 6-7 months (Till the time I fill CAT 2018 form) and CFA Level 1 boost my profile significantly for next year and increase my chances of converting a call from a top b-school next year ?

-----------
It is genuine

Team InsideIIM,

replied 1 week ago

Your acads are above average and not spectacular. You should probably look at CAT again. Use this framework here to decide : https://insideiim.com/community-question/should-i-take-cat-again/

Talking about conversion right now makes no sense. First you need to prepare well to ensure you are in a position to get calls. We always suggest people take a full-time job vs sitting at home. CFA will have little bearing on your final selection – it will help but is not a game changer.

You have decent work-ex already. You have decent acads too. Consider ISB/GLIM/MISB Bocconi through GMAT? MISB Bocconi profile based call is possible but you may have to take Bocconi Test. You can ask them here : https://insideiim.com/community-question/cat-2017-results-profile-evaluation-for-misb-bocconi-class-of-2020-begins-june-2018/

Taking CAT again is also an option but ISB is a better option if cost of MBA is not an issue.

Thanks for such an encouraging response.

Do I have any chance of making into IIMs provided I get the required percentile next year?

Need information on the Work Experience. And honestly, GD/PI/WAT shortlists are unpredictable. So, as of now work on getting the required percentile. You can pick up some online courses in case you want to add to your list of things (CV, frankly). The shortlisting phase comes later. I’ve known people who haven’t got call from A,B,C, L even at 99.47%ile.

So, prepare. That’s it. Good luck. 🙂

The phase of targeting the colleges comes after securing a percentile. I’ll advise to focus on the preparation as of now since shortlists are very unpredictable.

I aspire  to do a lot. it is my dream to be a mba student of a top bschool of india. but if my potiential is not the level, I am thinking of changing my goals. please guide me, I am clueless of what to do next looking at my CAT results.

I have known people who scored 40percentile in two attempts. And 95+ in their 3rd. Don’t change your goals or aspirations. Change the way you prepare.

If I go for cat/xat next year then what steps should I take during the year so that profile is good / Job is not a promising answer I find cause if again it doesn’t happens, career will be at stake.

@Prerna – You should definitely take CAT again. If you want to do MBA this year – check out MISB Bocconi through your NMAT score (which is decent). You can ask them questions here : https://insideiim.com/community-question/cat-2017-results-profile-evaluation-for-misb-bocconi-class-of-2020-begins-june-2018/

It’s not a dream. There are better dreams to look forward to. Take CAT as an exam next year with better preparation. You’ll be among the top IIMs.
Good luck with the prep. 🙂

but sir, Won’t this lack of work experience cause a problem. if i try this year again.

Thank you

No chances for A, B, C or FMS. Give it a better try next year. You’ll have gained some work ex as well. More points for that.

Good luck. 🙂

No No,sorry, i was asking that for next year in context of my academics, how much would it require for iima/b/c, i had a thought that my academics wouldn’t allow me to have those colleges at all.

Need information on your Category. If you fall in the General category, it’ll be pretty difficult to get calls.
Maybe you can prepare again for the top IIMs and gain some work ex as well, which will give you a upper hand next year.

You need to ace the interview.
The grad marks matter, but you should be able to pull it off.

And for your profile, I’ll suggest to convert your calls this time itself. Focus on GD/PIs now.
Good luck. 🙂

IIM A, IIM B, IIM C, IIM K and IIM L shortlists are out and cracking that “Interview call” is the most important thing right now for all the CAT Aspirants. The pain of not converting a call is worse than not getting one.
We know that you are working hard for preparing and may be even struggling right now to crack the interview and get into your dream b-school. Let us help you with the MBA Interview Preparation course by Deepali Nair (view the free sample here)
If you know someone who needs help with cracking important interviews, do not hesitate to share this link with them as well : https://konversations.com/courses/overview/17/?src=community. There are also webinars for students who have signed up. The first one is on 14th Jan. Hurry up.

12th 84.40%
B.Com (H) 51.78%
CAT score on the lower side
Any chances?

Hate to say but the acad scores are very low, and a lower percentile doesn’t help. If you want to pursue quality MBA I suggest you take another shot at CAT (taking a drop is a bad idea) and target Bschools with a fresh perspective. With the scores you might not get a good BSchool.

Does my acd. Qualify for IIM ????

there’s no such bar for qualifying for IIMs. It’s all relative, but with a percentile at the farther end of 99+ you might get calls from a few IIMs. Going for work-ex is a smart decision, I suggest you go with it and take CAT next year.

Hi Ritu
If you want to pursue an MBA this year, you can apply to MISB Bocconi using your NMAT score this year. Get your profile evaluated here – https://insideiim.com/community-question/cat-2017-results-profile-evaluation-for-misb-bocconi-class-of-2020-begins-june-2018/

You can also apply to institutes like IFMR, MYRA, IFIM Bangalore, Athena Mumbai.

However, if you do have some time, you can appear for CAT again this year

should i apply any college now or drop another year? Also if i drop what are the chances of getting into top bschools next year without work ex?

Team InsideIIM,

Hi Amit

We strongly advise against taking a gap year. It will be difficult to explain the same during the interview process when you get a call. If you are keen on giving CAT another go, we would suggest that you get some relevant work experience in the meantime.

Your 10th marks are good and 12th – decent so you may think of appearing for CAT again next year.

However, if you do want to get into a b-school this year itself, you can apply to following colleges – MYRA, IFIM Bangalore, Athena Mumbai, IFMR, MISB Bocconi, FORE Delhi, etc.
