Can project groups impact your grades in B-School?
I personally believe it does to some extent. There can be several reasons to think so:
- Social Loafing: Commonly known as “free riding”. Needless to tell that if 1 or more group mates don’t work upto the mark, the project suffers, and so do the grades
- Different levels of interest and commitment: Some fellows take up a few electives because of lack of options from their end. Imagine a situation where a Finance person is made to solve a case related to an HR elective and present it. Chances are likely that the commitment levels won’t be as high as that of a core HR student.
- Conflict between team members: It can be seen that seldom does a team reach a consensus over a project simply because two members disagree to each other’s views. There can again be many reasons to it, like, overconfidence, mistrust, mis-interpretation, engagement levels, etc. Nedless to say that a poorly prepared project report on account of such issues will reflect on the grades.
