Do GEMs from tier3 colleges get admitted to top B schools? Placements for them?
Thanks for addressing the elephant in the room. A lot of the aspirants have this question. To answer it in a word, I would say: Yes. Here’s why: B-Schools value diversity and look for candidates who would add value to class discussions.
Academic prowess is definitely a spike that makes it easy for the interviewers to chalk out a candidate. However, that said, they also look at your work experience, CAT score, interview, hobbies among other factors. If you’re too strong on any of these, chances are that you would convert the call. So to keep it short, if you’ve scored well and have a genuine spike in your profile you will convert it.
Placements: Since summer placement is majorly about your past profile, to be honest this might not be a cake walk for such people. However, final placements or lateral placements is all about your profile built in the two years of your academic stint at your B-School. So the candidate stands an equal chance as others.
Hope that helps.
P.S: There are many people I know personally who have graduated from tier-3 engineering colleges and are not students at prestigious B-Schools.
