If we talk in terms of difficulty, CAT is tougher on the Quant front and GMAT on the verbal. While CAT is accepted only in India (specifically for IIMs and other Indian b-schools), GMAT is accepted worldwide for MBA & MIM programs. CAT is more popular among students as the majority of test takers consist mostly of freshers or individuals having up to 2-3 years of experience. GMAT, on the other hand, is taken by individuals who have work experiences of 3 to 4+ years. The reason being that the international colleges accepting the GMAT scores, intake professionals having more than 2 to 5 years of work-ex.

Speaking of which is more worth taking, GMAT is easier since you can take it as many times as you want throughout the year (with a waiting period of 16 days after your last GMAT) and competition is lesser. CAT happens once a year and competition is about three times higher than that in the GMAT.
You can actually plan out your preparation as per your convenience. Since there are prerequisites on the work experience part for the colleges accepting the GMAT score, you need to think about your preferences. Whether you yearn to have an International full-time MBA/MIM degree and you have a good amount of work ex, then you may think about taking the GMAT. It is costlier though ($250 per application, along with the Institute application fee).
