Hi Nitya,

You may consider looking at this particular course on our sister platform Konversations.com – https://konversations.com/courses/overview/1?src=inscomm

You should also look at this video with Utsav Mamoria – a market researcher (who is an MBA from MICA) – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqkdNqap3bM

-----------
We've created a course on Market Research

The Indian Institutes of Management at Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Kolkata have a Fellow Program in Management (which is equivalent to a PhD) that offer research in the following areas –

IIM Bangalore: Corporate strategy and policy, economics and social sciences, marketing, organisational behaviour and human resource management, finance and control, production and operations management, quantitative methods, information systems, public policy and public systems.
IIM Ahmedabad: Agriculture, business policy, economics, finance and accounting, computer and information systems, marketing, organisational behaviour, production and quantitative methods and public systems.
IIM Calcutta: Behavioural sciences, economics, finance and control, human resource management, management information systems, marketing, operations management, public policy and management, strategic management, regional development, operations research and systems analysis and sociology

These are broadly the areas of research that one can be expected to work on during their PhD programmes after a Masters in Management, even in Business Schools abroad. Some of them come under the traditional marketing disciplines of Finance, Marketing, Strategy, Operations and HR whereas the others are interdisciplinary. Upon completion of PhD Programme, one can expect to work in Academia as a professor, conduct research for policy purposes, work in Policy making, do consultancy projects for companies, etc.

It's based on the inputs from a candidate who's already taken GRE, scored 334/340 and is now actively seeking FPM opportunities in the Top B-Schools of India and abroad.
