Should I retake CAT?

Last year I got 51 percentile with 1 month of preparation. Should I take cat again? Am an sc category student.

Hi Satheesh,
 
You have decent academic percentages expect the one secured in UG. Considering your caste profile, I would suggest you write CAT again and get at least around 80 percentile and you can expect to get calls from most of the IIMs including the older ones. You can also join an organization, gain a considerable amount of work experience and then again write CAT. All the top B-Schools in the country including the IIMs gives a good amount of weightage to the quality and the amount of work-ex towards the preparation of the interviewee’s/final merit list.

It’s good to know that you’re considering the possibility of taking CAT again. At the outset, to answer your question; Yes, you should go for another attempt. Given your profile and your quota status, I am sure you can crack some good colleges with a year’s prep.
