Solve This Case Study – How Can Disney+ Launch In India?
Disney has been the foremost name in the media business for several decades now. What started as just a bunch of cute cartoon figures who lit up the middle-class American screens every evening, has transformed into a media behemoth which after the recent acquisition of Hollywood biggie 20th Century Fox is now also the Most-Watched Place on Earth.
Disney is planning to enter India, all guns blazing, by the end of 2019. But there are questions that still need answering as far its entry strategy is concerned. Based on this case study, answer the following questions.

- How will this supply chain differ from a normal supply chain?
- What do you think will be some of the challenges you’ll face setting up operations and how will you overcome them?
I would say hotstar is working great, so no disruption needed there.
But if you are entering with a new brand in indian market you will have a better chance if you follow the policy of JIO, but that would present you another problem (self competetion against hotstar which leads to loss of revenue), so i suggest to club all the franchise into a single platform.
From a consumers point of view i would say rename HOTSTAR people will still accept it as they did in TEZ to GPAY journey.
I think there are two ways in achieving what you want.
1.Build a differentiated subscription at different price points say for example least for sports, a bit extra for hotstar specials a bit more for franchise and a kids specific subscription.
2.Build on existing Hotstar subscription base by providing free subscription for the existing hotstart premium users for a period of time, this leads to people getting habituated for the franchise specific content this will also help improve the base of hotstart premium.
I would also add that it is better to avoid exorbitant prices like netflix as people resort to piracy than buying the content in such cases.
Hope it helps!!!
I AM A CONSUMER
I want to say that definitely operation management plays a very important role in basically conducting the business efficiently and effectively and distribution purpose they have to target a particular group of people as there is very wide variety of people in India hence Disney has to choose there customer because they provide luxury products which are not affordable for everyone
In my opinion process layout in much better and make to order inventory is much better as it provide optimum satisfaction to the customer and enhance the quality also
I guess Hotstar is a best example as it is providing content for each type of people and has variety of content in it
Yes logistics is very important and to remain in the cut throat competition it is necessary to plan strategise and then take some action and also consider the competitive actions
3pl basically means 3 party logistics or in simple words we can say outsourcing
Disney definitely outsource the things to improve the quality and constraint the cost for their benefit like they can provide content from other portals by collaboration like hotstar provide hbo content
This supply chain is better as there will be no middlemen the company will directly be in contact with the customer which will build up the better relation ship and reduce the cost and maximise the customer satisfaction.
The main challenge that they have to face is that they cannot capture all the population as Disney itself provide all the content as per the Indian content and secondly it has to face competition with amazon prime hotstar and Netflix of course for this they can basically widen their content and make it much more attractive and apart from that it must be affordable like prime and hotstar
