Guest Lecture By Mr. Anupam Dutta, Director, PwC India
The Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur was privileged to host Mr. Anupam Dutta, Director, PwC India on the 12th of October, 2017 for a guest lecture under its flagship guest lecture series – ‘Vaarta’. Mr. Dutta is currently engaged in the areas of Data Analytics and Tax Technology and holds an impressive set of accomplishments in over a decade and a half of corporate life. A leader who personifies dynamism, Mr. Dutta perfectly shared his rich understanding of the industry with the managers-in-the-making of VGSoM.
He started off the session on an unconventional yet effective note of ‘Here and Now’ in which the students in attendance shot out the thoughts lining their minds at that very instant of time. This was an effort to ensure a seamless flow of ideas in the ensuing session and maximise the learning outcome in the process. Having dealt with an array of clients from multiple geographies and industries, Mr. Dutta made sure to pass some of his key observations and analyses to the students in a bid to make them better equipped to handle the human aspect involved in any corporate assignment. On the heels of this came the ‘Concept of 3Cs’ that included ‘Competition’, ‘Communication’, and ‘Connection’, that was highlighted with great clarity by the guest. The 3Cs formed the key ingredients to achieving success in the career of a manager. Competition, more with oneself than with anyone else to stand unique in the crowd, sound Communication skills to perceive people and their views in the truest sense, and strong Connections to forge lasting relationships, could according to the speaker lead any corporate professional to the path of glory.
In addition to the invaluable views mentioned above, Mr. Dutta enlightened one and all with a couple of takeaways from Analytics and its applications in transforming businesses across the globe. In this regard, he even touched upon an interesting piece of statistics. He mentioned how about 64% of CEOs were of the opinion that management of data shall differentiate them but on the contrary only approximately 39% of them were harnessing it while he spoke. This only underscored the tremendous untapped potential of data analytics in the present age. Further, the guest put forth a bird’s eye view of the exciting sphere of predictive analytics which holds enormous potential to enhance the lives of people. The steps and measures that constitute this state-of-the-art multi-disciplinary practice also found mention in the session.
Thus, for the students of VGSoM who stand at the threshold of corporate life, such a session lent immense firepower to the arsenal of the managers of tomorrow. Indeed, Mr. Anupam Dutta beautifully blended subtle humour with invaluable learning points to deliver a memorable session to the budding managers of the institute to benefit from. Hence, we hope to interact with our esteemed guest on many such occasions in the times to come and soak in the essentials to succeed in the industry from him.
