IIM Kashipur – From An Engineer’s Perspective

So it started when the CAP round results were declared. I was waitlisted in IIM Kashipur and some other IIMs. As an engineer from Electronics and Telecommunications background, I always tend to take decisions analytically. Right after the results, I plunged into the pool of information, surfing different articles on InsideIIM and asking questions on Quora and obviously analyzing the last year trends.

As a technology enthusiast with the entrepreneurial spirit, I was looking for an institute which would help me with the knowledge along with the facilities which would help me to boost my entrepreneurial journey. I was searching for the best option amongst the options I had in hand. I had some parameters which I had jotted down to analyze my options. I would like to share, how I analyzed these parameters and landed here in IIM Kashipur.

The Eagle’s Eye view: While reading about all the institutes, I observed that at IIM Kashipur (even it is mentioned on the official website of IIM Kashipur that) the rigorous curriculum seeks to instill a passion for knowledge and to apply that knowledge to real-life scenarios. The word rigorous caught my attention. Whatever you do in future, it might be an entrepreneurial stint or a job in MNC it will always the attitude and rigor that will make all the difference.

Location: I wanted to go to a place where I will be learning by working on live projects. The Institute is located in one of the most densely industrialized regions with over 180 industries having plants in and around the region and many more coming up. This places the IIM Kashipur at a vantage point when it comes to ‘Learning by Doing’ via frequent industry interactions and live projects.

Also, it is said that IIM Kashipur is in ‘not so developed region of India’. There are many villages near the Kashipur region. But, at the same time, it provides the opportunities to work for these villages, to know their problems and giving a solution to them and last but not least, to create an impact on the society.

Quality of Infrastructure: One of the most essential things for an institute to function satisfactorily is the availability of necessary infrastructure in terms of a state-of-the-art computer lab, a high-speed Internet connection, a well-stocked library with subscriptions to management literature, and classrooms duly furnished with facilities for teaching with the help of audio-visual aids. IIM Kashipur shifted to its permanent campus in 2016 and is equipped with all these facilities and many other under construction.

Entrepreneurial Support: As an aspiring entrepreneur I was looking for an institute with entrepreneurship support. IIM Kashipur has an Entrepreneurship Cell where like-minded people can collaborate on ideas to solve a real world problem and turn that solution into a sustainable business model. Recently some funds have been allocated for the e-cell IIM Kashipur which will help students incubate their start-up ideas in IIM Kashipur campus.

This was the research that I did, I would suggest you to similarly boil it down to the basic parameters and compare the options which you have got in hand.

Which ABG company would one want to work for and why?

I would like to work for the Aditya Birla Science and Technology Company Private Limited.

Since my childhood, I have always been fascinated by Science and Technology. It’s really astounding that how technology has changed our lives in the past couple of decades. Being a technology enthusiast I always look for places where the teams are working on the cutting edge technology to create an impact on the society. My ‘engineering brain’ helps me to think of innovative solutions to the real-life problems and the management profile will help me to execute those solutions effectively. Thus, I think in Aditya Birla Group ABSTCPL (Aditya Birla Science and Technology Company Private Limited) is the place where I would really like to contribute and learn from.
