IIM Shillong – Campus In Clouds
I joined IIM Shillong on 21 June 2018. This Campus in Clouds stands true to its name. It is a beautiful lush green campus which is set amidst the clouds and the cool breeze keeps us company throughout the day. No day has been dull or simple so far. The days are spent in attending classes and the nights are spent in doing the assignments or completing the pre-reads. Of course, we do have our share of fun on the campus! There are outings, jam sessions, birthday celebrations, and so on. It is a great destination for photography lovers.
IIM Shillong stands apart from other B-schools in the focus it puts on sustainability management. At the end of the one-week foundation course on sustainability management, we were taken on a day-long field trip organized by the institution. This trip was my best day in Shillong. It takes learning beyond the classroom to a new level.
We left for Mawphlang Sacred Forest at 6 AM on 8 July 2018. This mystical forest is a protected area which is situated in the East Khasi Hills of Shillong. It is preserved by the natives since ancient times as it is a part of their religious beliefs in which forests are considered a sacred entity. Just spend a moment to listen to the sound of nature or observe the different types of flora. It was a truly wonderful experience. At times I felt like I am Alice from ‘Alice in the Wonderland’.
The next part of our trip was trekking. We set out for a hill near Shillong. The hill was as beautiful as the forest. We climbed all the way up the hill. The uphill climb was somewhat exhausting but it worth it. We came across clear streams, slippery stones, lively goats, and natural springs. The hill was covered with greenery as far as the eyes can see. There were caves which are often inhabited by cattle. It looked like a place straight out of a Kung fu Panda movie. An umbrella is a must as it was constantly raining. Meghalaya is, after all, one of the wettest places on Earth.
We came back to our campus in the evening. The day had not ended yet. Preparations for the next day classes were yet to be made.
I hope in this two-year journey ahead of me, I get to learn new things from my diverse batch and build many more memories here.
Which ABG company would you want to work for and why?
If given a chance, I would like to work with Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited. The brands Van Heusen, Allen Solly are increasingly gaining popularity by women when it comes to office wear. The brands Pantaloon, Forever 21, and People are gaining popularity with the Indian youth. Therefore, a decent market share is captured by ABG in the apparel industry. Some of the brands which come under ABG Fashion and Retail Limited also happen to be my personal favourites. After wearing these brands for several years, it would be a great opportunity for me to work with the team behind it.
