IIM Shillong – Cherry Blossoms

When it comes to the uniqueness of IIM Shillong, there are not one but many reasons that make this place an out-of-this-world experience. Shillong is not called Scotland of the East for nothing. The stark similarities between the landscapes here and there are astounding. We have the world’s wettest place, Mawsynram, in our vicinity. Moreover, the mountainous treks here, are the best stress relievers.

IIM Shillong campus is a temporary campus built over the Mayurbhanj complex, which, itself provides the best scenic views from our hostel rooms. Filled with Cherry Blossom trees and plantations all around, it offers us such eye pleasing nature’s phenomena that it sooths even the most anxious minds amidst the B-school pressure. Did I mention the fact that we never need air conditioning here as the temperature and humidity levels here can only be dreamt by any other B-school participant across the country? Or that the time zone is different in North-east as compared to the rest of India. Or the fact that many a times, a group of clouds enter into the class rooms making the surroundings misty and hazy? Such is the IIM Shillong campus, the Campus in Clouds! It all seems worth it when the state-of-the art classroom infrastructure merges with such pleasing experiences.

Another aspect of our campus is the comparatively small batch size. All 360 of us (including both the PGP batches) know each other very well which helps us connect together easily and solve each other’s problem as a family. The various student committees here, ensure the smooth running of the campus. They make sure that we have the best facilities here as well as our share of the fun. The clubs ensure that the participants can learn as well as deliver the knowledge of their respective domains – our idea of peer learning apart from study groups.

The flagship event of IIM Shillong, Khlurthma, consists of Golf Cup – a perk that only we get to enjoy among other B-schools – that invites various dignitaries from government and corporates to compete. This serves as the best way for the participants to interact with the senior most people from the industry. Moreover, we have a Golf club dedicated to participants interested in playing Golf.

Lastly, the concept on which our college is based on – Sustainability – is the best thing about IIM Shillong. From switching off lights and geysers to organising the SusCon – the sustainability conference – another flagship event of IIM Shillong, which focusses on the need to bring sustainability practices in every business, I believe we are getting the best learning experience here.

Which ABG company I would like to work for?

I would be most interested to work for Hindalco Industries – the metals and fertilizers manufacturing division of ABG. Since I have prior working experience with a fertilizer firm, I would like to combine my previous knowledge with what I have learned in my MBA degree. I believe, this way, I would be able to make the most out of my career as well as my contribution towards ABG would be maximum.
