What this campus lacks in size, it makes up with the beauty of human relationships. Here in IIM Shillong, we are one big family. From the astoundingly well-informed professors, ever-willing to share their profound knowledge; to the chirping, smiling, helpful local staff; to the pitter-patter of the incessant rainfall atop the bamboo roofing; the biting cold winter months; the pre-winter season when the cherry blossoms come up in all their glory; the 4 AM sun rises; the college hoodies which we flaunt with a pride like no other; the never-ending cribbing about the mess food; the love for Chinese food (dumplings in particular); the Scholar’s path (the road less travelled); Golf Cup, the Legacy event of our college; Podium Sessions (Corporate interactive session); late-night assignments; the all-nighters we have to pull because of project work- all these and much more have become a quintessential part of our life here at IIM Shillong.
What sets us apart is perhaps the unwavering trust we have in each member of this IIM Shillong family. We have an open-door policy where we keep our rooms and cupboards unlocked at all times. One early bird ensures that no one in their wing misses the morning class. There are classes taken by peers to ensure that nobody is lagging behind and copious amounts of reading material including notes taken by batchmates circulated for exam preparation.
The learnings outside the classroom is another arena where we stand out. The women-centric society of Meghalaya teaches us the real essence of empowerment where women hold the dominant role in society building. Most shops are run here by women. The locals with their humility, amicability, perseverance and discipline provide the biggest takeaways from the culture here. This city which sleeps way before the rest of the country, is a flagbearer when it comes to performing business peacefully and ethically. There is little honking to be heard on the road or the by-lanes of Shillong. One does not need to bargain with the cab drivers because they earn an honest livelihood. Street vocations thrive in complete peace in this sleepy town in the hills.
This institution which was created with a vision of providing quality management education in the North Eastern part of the country, is giving back to the society by producing future managers with value-systems that are rooted in traditions and beliefs of this wonderful part of India.
Each one of us owes so much to this campus and the multitudinous learnings that are inculcated in us every passing moment.
ABG Company I want to work for:
I would like to work in telecommunication sector with IDEA CELLULAR LIMTED. With the current changes in the technology, Govt focusing on building digital structure in the country (NOFN project, Bharat Net project), 5G technology by 2020, the sector will involve lot of substantial shifts. My internship work experience in Digital data and devices in telecom sector helped me in gaining substantial interest in this field. My prior work experience in the IT sector and knowledge gained during post-graduation at IIM Shillong will be helpful in serving better.
