IIM Shillong – Opening The Gates To New Opportunities
Entry into a B-school was the most awaited moment for me since the third year of college, when I first started to prepare for CAT.IIM is a brand everyone wants to associate themselves with and I was no different. Going through the rigorous processes of interviews and group discussions or writing ability test by the premier B-schools from where I had received the shortlists, I ended up doing a lot of qualitative research on all the B-schools. I realised that though IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta are a league part from the rest of the colleges, the onus is on the individuals to make the most out the resources being provided by the college and being a part of the top 3-4 percentile of the country, it can be rest assured that one would get the best lot of peers. I never had a second thought of joining IIM Shillong as it has established a brand of itself in the industry and is now the newest of the older IIMs and also the oldest among the newer IIMs. The reason I wished to pursue a MBA was to hone my leadership skills, shape myself as an individual and to broaden my horizon of knowledge. IIMs whether new or old are completely student driven and provides the perfect platform for an individual to mould oneself into leaders of tomorrow. IIM Shillong was established with the mission to promulgate knowledge in all aspects of management education for sustainable development and this differentiates itself from the rest of the B-schools. It not only focusses on the teachings of sustainability but also on the practical application of it. Which better place can offer one the chance to appreciate the importance of inculcating sustainability practices into their daily lives than living within the untouched beauty of Shillong. Unlike the other B schools which are situated in the metro or the tier 1 cities, Shillong provides a very different environment to the MBA students. The city provides immense opportunities to the individuals to practically apply what they have learnt in their classrooms to overcome the challenges the city faces and being located in the north-east, it provides a very different cultural experience. For me life is all about experiences and it is rightly believed that experiences make man. The above reasons together encouraged me to join the Campus in Clouds – IIM Shillong.
Aditya Birla Group
Under the Aditya Birla Group, I would wish to work for Aditya Birla Capital Ltd which is the largest financial services players in India. I have earlier worked for FinTech companies which were into credit lending so now I would love to experience working in the same line under the umbrella of Aditya Birla Group. Apart from the vertical of financial solutions, the company also has other verticals of investing solutions and protecting solutions which are areas that I always wanted to explore and with the knowledge that I gain through the coursework at IIM Shillong I am sure I will be able to make the most out of the situation.
