IIM Shillong – Sustainability And Ethics
The campus in clouds, situated in Shillong, Meghalaya has more to offer than one can imagine. It is blessed with a phenomenal weather and one of a kind local culture where locals are extremely friendly and one can learn a lot just by interacting with the Khasi people.
IIM Shillong has always advocated the importance of sustainability and ethics. It is a true believer in the sense that even the students joining the college have to go through a sustainability week before the actual session starts where one gets to learn a lot. Personally, it is one of the most memorable experiences for me as in addition to the classroom learning about sustainability, we also got a chance to trek and learn about it by visiting some of the remotest mountains and years old sacred forest in Meghalaya. It is something which cannot be offered anywhere else.
My batch has one of the best genders and academic diversity any MBA college can offer, having multiple CAs and people from backgrounds as diverse as Navy. People might think that our small batch size is an issue, however, the truth is that everyone here lives like a family and all the juniors and seniors know each other. I have learnt the true sense of peer learning by joining this college. It is a student-driven campus, students handle some major responsibilities like Public Relations, Hostels, IT Infrastructure, etc. by doing which they are essentially practising management in the real life.
All the teachers at IIM Shillong are extremely helpful and are always ready to help, they keep their sessions very interactive. Apart from this, one of the key USPs IIM Shillong has to offer is that it offers one of the highest numbers of electives and everyone can choose to study in the field they are interested in. Students have the privilege to study under the guidance of industry leaders, consultants and faculties who pioneer in their field when they choose their electives. It also provides plenty of international exposure with its study abroad program and the tie-ups with various international universities.
It is an honour to be a part of such a college which shares such high values, diversity and be part of this culture where everyone is so helpful. Somehow, I have been able to adjust to the tight sleeping schedules even though it is something which I never imagined.
Coming here is the best decision I ever took.
Which ABG company would you want to work for and why?
To work with any company in the Aditya Birla Group would be an honor, however, it’s the Aditya Birla Science and Technology Company Private Limited where I would like to work. Being from a technical background, I think that this company would be the best fit for me as I’ll be able to understand the operations and functioning in a better way. Also, the company has a very good profile in terms of registering multiple patents and it’s working on various areas from Aluminum for Hindalco Innovation Centre to Cement, Chemicals, etc. which would give me a chance to work on diverse products for diverse companies under Aditya Birla Management Corporation Pvt. Ltd.
