IIM Udaipur organizes its first ever Analytics Summit: “Big Data – Big Advantage”

Indian Institute of Management Udaipur successfully organized the first edition of the “IIM- Udaipur Analytics Excursus” on 5th December 2013 at the institute. Focusing on the importance of extensive data getting generated every day and to take the useful insight from it which can be used for decision making, the theme for the discussion was “Big Data- Big Advantage”

 The event was inaugurated with a welcome address by Prof. Janat Shah, Director, IIM Udaipur, where he emphasized on the significance of management education in being a transformational experience for the students. He spoke on the importance given at IIM Udaipur towards entrepreneurship, analytics and developing leadership capabilities in students. The Conclave encompassed a Presentation Challenge and two Panel Discussions. The Presentation Challenge comprised of a competition amongst student teams presenting the importance of Analytics and how well it has benefited the organizations.

The panel discussions were a platform for industry leaders to share their expertise through engaging dialogues on two subthemes within the umbrella of “Big Data – Big Advantage” First panel discussion revolved around the theme “Big Data: Opportunities and Challenges” while second panel discussion was about “Big Data: Transforming Businesses and Creating Competitive Advantage”. Six eminent speakers from various industries graced the event and shared their experiences and immense knowledge which helped students gain insights in the field of Big Data. Panelists were Mr. Roy Cherian, Founder & CEO Marketelligent, Mr. Gaurav Vohra , Co-founder Jigsaw Academy, Mr. Dripto Mukhopadhyay, VP Projects at Indicus Analytics, Mr. Ashit Panjwani, Executive Director – Sales & Marketing, SAS Institute (India), Mr. Rajbir Singh, Global Head-Customer Centric Solutions, HCL and Mr. Amar Saxena, Head Analytics, RBS. The Analytics Excursus concluded with declaration of results for the presentation challenge competition followed by a vote of thanks.

The panel discussion, the student presentations as well as the quality interaction with the industry leaders was an enriching experience for the students of IIM Udaipur. Institute plans to make this event an annual affair with an aim to provide students a platform for them to interact with such senior leaders and learn from them about the amazing growth and vast opportunities the analytics industry brings with itself.
