My Journey To IIM Shillong

I have graduated in 2016 from VNIT Nagpur and started working as a Data Analyst. After working for more than a year I felt that my learning has stopped and my work got repetitive. So in June, I have decided to have prepared diligently for CAT 2017. I had 6 months to prepare and it was quite a task to manage both my job and CAT preparation. In August, I managed to enrol in a coaching class and started taking mocks. The initial marks were disappointing but I quickly scaled up in a span of 2 months.

In October, My manager told me that they had a requirement onsite and they wanted me to take it up. I was in a dilemma to take it up or not.  The onsite opportunity meant awesome exposure, great networking and the opportunity to work at a swanky office. On the flip side, I felt it may not be a good option to take up the additional responsibility with CAT just around the corner. I thought about it for a day or two and decided to take up the onsite offer.

As expected the new place and the new responsibilities took a toll on me and I had no time to revise the concepts or take the mock exams. I continued to do dutifully finish off all the tasks given to me and put CAT preparation and revision on hold. Luckily, I had taken a week off just before the exam. So I managed to revise most of the topics in a week’s time.

On 26th of Nov, the D-day I managed to do well in the paper but felt I could have done well in the Verbal section. In January, the results were out. I managed to get a decent CAT percentile and had a few interview calls. IIM Shillong was the best call I had. The interview was scheduled on 15th April and I had ample time to prepare. The interview went well and I was confident of converting it. Finally, the results were out in the third week of May. As expected I had converted the call.

I have joined IIM Shillong on 20th of June. It has been less than a month but feels like I have been here since ages. The last 25 days have been pretty eventful and have given me a preview of how the next 2 years are going to be. Looking forward to learning and bringing out the best in me during my stay at Shillong.

Which ABG Company would you want to work for and why?

If given a chance, I would like to be a part of Hindalco Industries.  I would like to be a manager in the Marketing Department at Hindalco. Hindalco is a manufacturer of Aluminium and Copper. I have graduated as a Metallurgical and Materials Engineer from VNIT Nagpur. I feel I can do justice to the field I have done my graduation in and the Marketing field where my interest lies. It would be interesting to put my technical and managerial skills to use at Hindalco. Aditya Birla Group is an established brand and it would be a pleasure to be a part of the ABG family.
