Let Today Be The Start Of Something New – IIFT
5 days after the start of college
It’s 4 am here and I am still not sure I should go to sleep or go out to the shop of Dewaan Sahab for a cup of tea and prepare for the exhaustive next day sessions. There is a so peace in the corridors of C9 (1st-year boys hostel of IIFT which is almost 800m away from campus) that I feel like the time has stopped. In the next one hour it is going to be full of panic, tragic and complaining voices and then there is going be a long line for the washroom and this place will be alive again.
Present day (15th day)
It has been 15 days since we have joined this prestigious institute of India, The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade and I still feel like I have lived a long time here. From the first day itself we were given an assignment and random groups were made. It is said like necessity is the mother of invention, here we students became so close in the group tasks due to never-ending assignments and hard to achieve timelines to complete the assignments. During these 15 days, we have learned more about teamwork, strengths, and weakness of our teammates and Sharing food during lunch hours became common during this time.
We also spent sleepless nights talking with each other for club interviews, danced like hell in fresher’s party and listened to the guitar the whole night by Kunal, and Soumik in our Hostel. The funniest part comes when we all C9ers have to come from campus to hostel and again have to return campus within 20-30 minutes. However, there was chaos among us for getting ready in formals, having quick lunch and getting clean shaved but we also enjoyed this camaraderie and we all always stood for each other. I belong to section C where you can meet students with different qualities and personality. Discussions and Motivation provide the necessary fuel to carry ourselves. We also have Fin-Enthu group where members get excited when they see any financial case studies or competitions.
So, this is the glimpse of the life in IIFT that I have experienced so far which is amazing and I hope that much more events, assignments, exams, guest lectures, quizzes, parties and C9ers nightly discussions are in line.
I would like to work for Aditya Birla Capital Limited(ABCL) as I have been improving my knowledge and skill set in the finance domain for quite some time and I want to have hands-on experience on Corporate Finance or Wealth Management. Having completed my Engineering in Information Technology, I worked in the development of Human Capital Management software in Cognizant where I had to do an analysis of the financial data of several companies for creating payroll processing module. This created more interest in me towards learning finance in more depth and I got the opportunity to work for State Bank of India as a Probationary Officer where I worked in different departments of organization learning different aspects of banking. I have also completed Mutual Fund Distributors Certification Examination by National Institute of Securities Markets.
