What Makes IIM Udaipur Unique – Kartik Tulsiyan
A campus is as much about the students as it is about the students in it. A good campus instills in the students, a desire to learn, a desire to become something more than what they are right now. And IIMU’s campus is not just good, it’s amazing, both in terms of its infrastructure and the quality of students here.
Even though our college is under construction, it is a sight to behold. We have the largest campus out of all the IIMs, even though we are situated amongst the hills. The hostel buildings made out of stone remind us of centuries-old forts. The academic block, equipped with the latest technologies, is something of the future. The hills and their greenery all around us keep us in awe of the magnificence of nature. The clouds, like the dreams of the students here, are always just within reach. And sometimes when they come down, the students shine like stars in the sky.
All premier MBA colleges have students from all around India, but IIMU is one step ahead of them. We don’t just have students from various parts of the country, we have students from various academic disciplines with one of the highest batch diversities amongst all the MBA colleges in India. The concept of peer learning is realized to its fullest here. We strive to bring out the best in all of us. Be it birthday celebrations or group assignments, not one student is left behind.
Our Director, Prof. Janat Shah is one of the most visionary persons we’ve met. According to his vision, by 2030, our college will be in the top five management institutions in this county, and we already ahead of schedule in realizing this dream of our director. The professors here are some of the best minds in the country with years of experience. We are always in awe of the knowledge they possess and feel privileged to be taught by them. Our college has six core values-Academic Excellence, Integrity, Transparency, Mutual Respect, Inclusion, and Environmental Consciousness. In everything we do, we aim to uphold these values to their highest. It takes time to develop a culture in a college. But we are on our way to do so.
While being mentored by IIM Ahmedabad, we inculcated their way of doing things as well and in time, have created something unique of our own. We aim to develop a culture of self-governance, along the lines of Stanford and Harvard, wherein rules do not regulate us, instead, we make our own rules while never breaching any of our core values. Therefore, we are confident that in the coming years, IIM Udaipur will be a force to be reckoned with and our students will excel in whichever field they go.
Which ABG Company would you want to work for and why?
If given a chance, I’d like to join Aditya Birla Retail Limited. I have always been interested in the FMCG sector, and ABRL would be the perfect place for me to start my career. It would expose me to all the parts of running an FMCG business, from procurement to manufacturing to marketing to retail sales and all that comes in between them. The specialized learning programmes at ABCLE would provide me with sector-specific knowledge which would be immensely helpful in properly managing the business. And to sum it up, working under the Aditya Birla Group would be a great matter of pride for me.
