What Makes IIM Indore Unique – Nitin Dwivedi
Having talked to my friends from other B-schools, now it doesn’t surprise me that all IIMs are so different from each other in so many ways. While we can brag about the placement statistics and alumni diaspora, the things that make IIM Indore unique in a special way for me are the small things I experience, enjoy, struggle with, every day.
IIM Indore, built on a hilltop is beautiful. Some days you admire its creatively designed zig-zag web of stairs, roads, inside hostel pathways while on others, they seem too long to cover. The latter feeling is most obvious when running for a class in the academic block, which happens to be at the top of the hill the college is built on. What adds to the reason we see students running for classes and sweating all the way, is the compulsory biometric attendance. Yes, in IIM Indore, the unique thing is that you may be physically present but still be officially absent in a class just because you were a minute late to punch in. No proxies for sure!
The second thing that has become a part of the daily discourse is the dilemma over the time and place to eat at. IIM Indore has multiple food joints inside the campus – SR10 basement shops, HUL Adda, FAC mess, Mess-1 and Mess-2. All places together give you many options to chose from, and now that we are in the second year (when daily Mess food is optional), the complex decision making involving variables such as – veg vs non-veg, paratha vs sandwiches, ever favourite Maggi vs. everyday food, chai vs coffee, cost-effective vs. full throttle binge eating – is every group’s pastime.
Which ABG company I would want to work for and why?
I would want to work in Aditya Birla Group is Aditya Birla Fashion Retail limited (ABFRL). It holds to so many big brands under its name – Louis Phillipe, Van Heusen, Allen Solly, etc. These brands have instant recall for most people and hold an identity for up-class formal dressing both for the young and the gentlemen. Besides these brands, ABFRL also manages and runs fashion retails such as – Pantaloons. It has been my favourite shopping destination for so many years. Now considering the changes in consumer buying habits and fashion trends, ABFRL has also moved to e-commerce with its AJIO.com, which I find a challenging and exciting business to be part of. Also, since I talked to many people who have done their internships at ABFRL, I know the variety of interesting work the firm has for each of their employees as per the capabilities and passions
