What Makes IIM Shillong Unique – Nitin Nathani
Our campus, also known as the “Campus In Clouds” is one of the most beautiful campuses I’ve ever seen. Situated in the beautiful city of Shillong, also known as the Scotland of the East, the climate is cool and soothing for the entire year. Located on a hill, the view from the campus is magnificent, covering various layers of clouds and scenic beauty. It isn’t a rare sight to feel the clouds around you being here.
The college has all the facilities required in a top B-school. Nearby the campus are beautiful mountains where trekking is done frequently. Sustainability, being one of the core strengths of our college, we are also taken to nature as a part of it through different treks organized throughout the year. Apart from the beauty of the campus, the college life is something I’m really proud of. Most of the college activities are run by students which helps us gain more exposure and insights in the corporate world.
Being in the Marketing Club, I’ve been given the opportunity to conduct various events, be an author of our monthly marketing magazine and interact with various industry experts. Being a part of the Cultural committee is an honor and our mission is to spread happiness throughout the college. We are a family of 360 who support each other through the ups and downs throughout the year. Be it accounts, stats or operations. Peer learning has always been in the core of our hearts. The faculties at our college have immense knowledge and are supportive.
Not only academics, we have been given immense opportunities to play sports at our college. I am proud to say that we are the football and table tennis champions among different B-schools in the competitions held throughout the year.
We are also given the opportunity to learn golf. We have a golf club, given the access to one of the most beautiful golf courses and also conduct a golf cup for corporates. Being eligible to participate in most of the corporate competitions for top B-schools has also given me the opportunity to learn more about the problems faced currently in the industry and bridge the gap between the theoretical and practical knowledge.
Thus, I’d say that the college has given me the opportunities I required and taught me a lot, theoretically and practically apart from experiencing its scenic beauty and soothing atmosphere.
Which ABG company would you want to work for and why?
I would like to be a part of Madura sector of Aditya Birla Group. I had participated in the case study competition held last year and gained interest in the sector. Brands such as Allen Solly and Van Heusen have always been admired by me. The overall sector of retail marketing is interesting including the impact of digitalization on it. I’ve also done my summer internship in fashion retail sector and gained interest in it. I came across its various aspects such as e-commerce, retail outlets and national outreach. Thus, I think this sector is in line with my future goals as well.
