The journey started with all interns reporting to their respective mentors on the 1st day. We were immediately debriefed about the respective projects on which we would be working on. Mine was basically related to customer acquisition for the company. A month long visit to potential customers, cold calling and primary research in an area which comprised of the entire Delhi-NCR was preceded by a week-long experience in office. Let me tell you, all that you’ve heard about startups having a fun working environment, flexible working hours etc. are absolutely true. The employees were more like a family. They helped me with big issues such as preparation of pitches for customers to even small things such as finding the local food joint.
Business Development
I would just give an overview as I can’t share the company policies. It was all about finding potential customers, meeting them and trying to bring them on-board. I would consider this experience a great value addition to my social skills. I had a daily reporting and weekly evaluation system for my project. I also had to change my TG from time to time as per my mentor’s instruction. But, the most important takeaway from this project would be planning and implementation of the tasks assigned to me.
An Experiment
The best part of working in a start-up is that you get to have a holistic view of a business. You are never denied any chance to work according to your wishes. I had a keen interest towards digital marketing. Being aware of this fact, my mentor also gave me the opportunity to work on it and design a referral system for the platform as another project. All, my inputs were evaluated and taken into consideration for future implementation (what more an intern can ask for?).
Overall, the entire journey was very enriching. To be very honest, this experience has in some way or other sowed the seeds of entrepreneurship in my mind. At least, I am not as sceptic as I used to be regarding this field. I am pretty sure that this would prove to be a firm stepping stone for my professional career.
