Summer-Placements-2011-Kozhikode

IIM Kozhikode concluded their summer placements for the Class of 2013 a few weeks back. InsideIIM.com gives you a detailed interpretation and role-wise analysis of IIM Kozhikode’s stupendous achievement. IIM Kozhikode seems to have made rapid strides this year too and the placement committee has managed to bring in  a good mix of roles.

(As you read the report, wherever you see ‘Not Reported’ it implies either no company has offered a role in that domain/sector or due to non-disclosure agreements with companies the information has been withheld.)

Getting Macquarie Capital and CLSA to recruit for summers for the first time shows that IIM Kozhikode is fast maturing into a campus that offers good finance jobs across the spectrum. Corporate, Transaction & Treasury banking scene at IIM K looks very strong as usual.

Exact nature of the Macquarie Capital role/s has not been disclosed.  It could also be a Research role and may be classified as non-front end. But for time being we will stick with front-end IB till more details emerge.

TATA Administrative Service (TAS) has expanded the list of campuses it recruits from this year and IIM K now features in it.  Another sign that the campus is maturing and now ready to move to the big league.

(The above list is not exhaustive of all companies that recruited in Consulting & General Management at IIM K. Also, certain marquee names may not be mentioned due to non-disclosure agreement between the company and IIM K.)

IIM K continues to show strength in the FMCG space. Plenty of options available for students who want to build a career in the FMCG industry.

Exciting opportunities seem to be there in companies like Yahoo,Amazon, FlipKart.com,Titan etc. It is a general consensus here at InsideIIM.com that summer projects in these companies are very interesting and exciting. Given below are some of these companies along with names in Media, Advertising and Sports Marketing space.

There are other domains/sectors for which demand is usually lower relative to Finance,Consulting or Marketing. InsideIIM.com looks at summer placement opportunities in some of those sectors at IIM Kozhikode below:

IIM Kozhikode also shared with us names of companies who have given international offers. Readers must note that in addition to these there could be more international stints. Companies do not always have confirmed projects and roles as early as October-November for an internship in April-May next year. For e.g. HUL is known to give interns a stint in other countries in Asia-Pacific region. We are only stating confirmed international offers below. It also does not include international offers from companies that may have a non-disclosure agreement with IIM K.

There are other parameters we have identified which should help everyone get a complete picture. We have stated them here below:

IIM K institute policy prevents the placement committee to reveal certain data sought by InsideIIM.com above.

The above figures are as per profile classification done by IIM K and released in the media

Team InsideIIM.com wishes to thank IIM Kozhikode placement committee for sharing information and confirming the role classification done by us as per the above format. All the role-wise splits and top company mappings were run through the placement committee of IIM K before this story was published. The commentary around every statistic is strictly by people at InsideIIM.com and the IIM K placement committee has not played any role in it.

This is the first in a series of reports that InsideIIM.com will bring to you. We are committed in bringing you a complete picture. We will also ensure that no irresponsible reporting is done on this website. Attempt will be made to verify the data with the institution before any publishing is done. However, lack of response from the institution will not prevent us from providing insight to our readers.

Readers should bear in mind that summer placement reports will be starkly different from Final placement reports. A lot of companies only recruit for summers and not finals and vice-versa. Also, decisions taken by students in terms of which companies to apply to and which offers to accept are very different after spending 18 months in an institution vis-a-vis the ones taken after just 3-4 months as is the case with summer internships. In a few institutes there is no choice after applying to a company i.e. you have to accept the first offer received from any of the companies you have applied to. This happens especially during summers. And in times like these where batch sizes are over 350 in most places, students are insecure and apply to every company that comes and are left with an offer in hand which they didn’t really want.  All the data needs to be kept in context of this reality.

    Good stuff, Inside IIM!

  3. sayan says:

Nicely Done. Are you guys planning to share reports of other IIM's as well except ABC which we already know are good.

    • We will do it for all 10 institutions featured on this website. Some times, like in case of IIM K, placement committees co-operate. In some cases they don't. We will be publishing reports in exactly this format for all the other schools as well irrespective of their response. We believe that since most of these top business schools have done well this year, they will only be more happy to share their success with the employer, student and aspirant community

    Good stuff!
It would be interesting to see how the functional breakup is changing across years, with higher women participation and changing batch profile (average work-ex, % engineers etc.). However, I'm sure that level of detail would be difficult to get.
Just to make sure – 20% from consulting includes general management as well, right?

Great work overall. Looking forward to the next one!

Good detailed analysis. Look forward to the forthcoming reports!

  6. Rahul says:

I am a student at IIMK and would like to point out some glaring lies in our report.

Macquarie and CLSA never recruited from IIMK!!! Societe Generale ..hahaha…are u guys not aware of the Euro zone crisis!

    • StudentPGP15 says:

Hey Rahul.. I am a student of IIMK-PGP15 batch and know who exactly are interning from these companies.. And I am sure you are not a genuine person to comment here.. Try ur frustration somewhere else buddy

      • PGP15er says:

CLSA and Macquarie had recruited for summer internship from pgp 15 (my batch) and they have also done so for PGP 16 as well. Since I know these guys personally , this is a utterly false accusation by whoever this Rahul is. Dont know who got into SG but they have recruited from IIM K in the past so I have no reason to believe that this year they didnt

  7. @Rahul – Send an email from your official email id provided by the institute for us to take this comment seriously.

Hi, there is no average / median stipend mentioned here?
