DMS IIT Delhi’s Thought Leadership Series: Vichaar Dhaara’18

Dr. Seema Sharma opened up the discussion by introducing the topic and the panel to the students. Ma’am quoted her views on the budget 2018 and also expressed her expectations from the budget. Being the last budget before elections in 2019, the panel felt that 2018 budget is very important for our country’s progress.

Each of the panel members brought in their views to the discussion from their personal as well as professional perspective. During the course of the discussion, a huge number of ministries in our country was brought up and couple members opined that there should be a lesser number of ministries which would become easier for the government to manage and regulate.

Manufacturing and Agriculture sector were more highlighted during the discussion and the panel expressed their views and advised new ideas in these sectors for a better budget. During the second of the session, panel members compared our budget with China. They also discussed how India is progressing in terms of ‘Ease of doing business’ and what further developments in the ecosystem might lead to a better outlook for PM’s Make in India campaign.

The panel also spoke about the expectations for the next 5 to 10 years. Overall development, Reduction in unemployment and upliftment of the rural areas have been the main focus points during the course of the discussion. During the last half an hour, Panel patiently answered all the questions put forward by the students and explained pros and cons for each of the idea put forward by them.
