One the broader level precedence can be seen starting from the Ishrat Jahan encounter by Gujrat police, Chhota Rajan Gang Member- Lakhan Bahiya, Hyderabad encounter where criminals after being arrested trying to threw acid on police and Vikas Dubey encounter where he was trying to test his luck and flee when police vehicles met with an incident (He was stupid to trust his luck, only police gets luckily in these circumstances!). Now, these kinds of criminals and gangsters are increasingly getting stupid in trying to attach police or flee and get killed. And that’s perfect for getting rid of them.
What do you think, is it not a Gujrat model for crime-free India? Just a thought!
Let's think of the gangster Vikas Dubey encounter, how can Vikash Dubey kill police persons who went to arrest him, he definitely been a mad man, I bet he did not read newspapers (not aware of thok do policy) otherwise he could have been arrested and produced to court for punishment or later he could have been out on bail, but when he killed police personals, the crime was committed, everybody knew it, so he has to be punished. Arrested by MP police and when the UP police were bringing him to Kanpur, the vehicle met an accident, he tried to flee by attacking police (again!), police shot him dead.
How swift was the justice? you must believe in luck otherwise police vehicles rarely met with accidents. If the accident would not have happened, he would have been produced to the court, police had to investigate and present all proof, then the court had to punish him after multiple hearings. It would have taken a lot of time, effort, and money to do this, but the police saved everyone.
Although some people say it was a travesty of justice as per them, (I am not among them, I want to make it clear if you know what I mean!).
These wired people say the work of the police is to produce criminals to the court and present evidence by the thorough investigation which will be critically analyzed by courts to punish them as per crimes gravity. And a lot kind of nonsense. I simply don’t buy it, if something is wrong, it is wrong, why waste so much time and money on it?
One of my friends took it very seriously and lectured me on the same nonsense for an hour, for your reference was trying to say something like this-
“Dilshad, that’s not the way a society should work, If somebody commits a crime, it’s the job of the police to bring that person in front of the judiciary with evidence, the court interns, decides the punishment after evaluating evidence based on the constitutional guidelines. It is not the police or politician to take the decision irrespective of severity of the crime. Once Police or any other person/body starts to take the decision, which is the judiciary’s work, its imbalances the society.
Initially, it might start from the big cases but once we start to accept it, for pity issues it can be used. Not only this, as we know, the transfer and promotion of police are being facilitated by politicians. Once police, set precedence, they can easily be used by politicians and corrupt police (and we know how effective corruption is in India). Moreover, it can take a dramatic turn to target opposition by politicians and equally important innocent people can become victims. What about the policy- 1000 culprits can escape but once innocent can’t be punished? Who will save innocent people when cases don’t reach the courts?
This kind of incident not only makes a precedent but can also start a trend which at the beginning might seem pleasing to the public but in the long term it’s going to destabilize the society. It becomes acceptability of social justice and people based on their thinking will justify it. Even public lynching can become rampant, and we have seen a rumor, a video from Pakistan, can kill 50 people and can make 10,000 people flee their homes in UP. It's like setting an eternal fire and encouraging people to keep pouring petrol in it to get themselves burnt. Innocent/ political killing and other many such kinds of incidents start which is akin to ‘jiski lathi uski bhains’.
And if this happens, wouldn’t that be a real jangle raj?, the thing we are desperately trying to end”- My reaction, everything is in a circle too good is also bad! Not funny but I had to respond.
The person continues, “ wouldn’t it be like "Acche Din", fighting for higher petrol and LPG prices we are ending up paying double price, people losing their jobs, etc, or last year’s vocal for local or Atama Nirbhar bharat which has increased reliance on China, or trying to double farmers income, farmers end up protesting for more than a year on roads which resulted taking more than 700 farmers life! Or doing all that to get rid of black money yet it continues to persist!
Similarly, dude, by following the current policy of ‘thok do’ will end up harming innocent people and people which stop taking seriously the procedure and code of the society that our freedom fighters, leaders have created for us from their blood and sweat.
Just think of Bhagat Singh and Ambedkar's India, Neta Ji's dream India or pick any freedom fighter or any leader, see where this policy taking our society ”
Hmm, too emotional, seriously I couldn’t think what to say. Although the person makes sense I also have the concern of innocent people becoming the victim. But importantly, I had to respond to this person, apan jhukega naheen!
I just have one Ramban whenever I can’t win an argument, whatever they say, just say, Ayega to Modi hi! “What does this have to do with our conversation”, I be like firbhi aayega to Modi hi!
Honestly, crime should decrease, but how?, what do you think?, what should be our approach?
Thok dain?
