Background

After working for two years as a software engineer at Dell Technologies, developing high-performance systems, I knew this was the right time to begin my journey toward leadership. I gave the CAT and scored quite well, but I quickly realized it was just the beginning of a tedious and complicated process. I learned about BITSoM through an article online, and I was extremely excited about the idea of a new-age business school with the best faculty from around the globe located in the heart of our financial capital. My BITSoM interview experience was nothing like any other B-School in India. It had the essence of a truly global B-School where it felt more like a conversation than an interview.

My interview panel consisted of a BITS alumni and a member of the BITSoM admissions team. The interview focused on my work experience with some questions regarding the leadership experience I had at my college and work.

Questions that were asked

1. Tell us about yourself.

I started with my family business background and how I always had a knack for leadership. Then I talked about my passion for tech and why I did my engineering in Computer Science from Manipal University Jaipur. After that, I gave a brief about my work at Dell.

2. You have written about some exciting feats you've accomplished at your Job. Can you please take us through those?

I explained how I took up a challenging project as an intern and delivered results that landed me a PPO. Then I described my journey, developing some of the most crucial services for the company and working with leadership from around the globe.

3. You have a great job! Why give up on that? Why an MBA?

I talked in detail about my upbringing in a business family and how I felt incomplete in a purely technical role. Further, I explained how an MBA can help me get a structured and in-depth knowledge of strategic management, which is necessary for my leadership goals.

4. Do you have any leadership experiences from your college or a job?

I talked about my experience of managing a large team of volunteers for the cultural festival of my college and the promotional campaign I led for the blood donation camp in my college.

How to prepare

Take a comprehensive look at the essays that you wrote, emphasizing your significant achievements. Rest assured it's not a stress interview; rather, the focus will be on exploring your experiences and accomplishments, particularly how you adeptly handled challenges and assumed leadership responsibilities. Approach the discussion with confidence, professionalism, and a genuine representation of your abilities and strengths. Present the best version of yourself and let your achievements speak for your capabilities.
