How I overcame challenges to achieve my ambitions in life?
I graduated in 2015, as an Electrical and Electronics engineer and was recruited by Vedanta Ltd | Sesa Goa Iron Ore. Being a part of River Fleet and Shipping, my first task was to work in deep sea handling transhipment operations. This work involved handling a team of 45 workmen of varied age demographic. Along with understanding & learning the operations and functioning of the transhipment, being a team player and a team leader was the need of the hour. I had to get acclimatised to all these three aspects within a span of one month for being successful in my role as a Shift Engineer.
After working for nearly 3 years in River Fleet and Shipping division, I was transferred to Pig Iron Division of Vedanta Value Added Business, Amona. The work environment was completely different and yet again I had to work with a team having a mix of unionised and contract workmen. This job role required prompt action and dynamic decision making abilites to prevent breakdowns of the operations. I learnt that even though every job requires different approach towards problem solving, with some patience, a lot of confidence, determination and curiosity for learning, things do work out!!
While handling a 12hours shift a day, I also had a dream of pursuing my MBA in a Top B school. I knew it would be quite difficult to manage both the Job as well as my studies for Entrance exams. Here, time management played an important role. I had to for-go some of my leisure time to get to where I am now.
